Emissions control vent malfunction POO446

POO446 This code keeps coming up on my 2003 S-10 sometimes once a month or less. Now supposedly its the gas tank vent valvei have checked the gas filler hose for leaks and replaced the gas cap. My question is where is the location of this vent valvecan I see it and can I reach it from the take off panel in the left rear wheel well and if its located on top of the gas tankcan it be replaced without dropping the tank? Thanks a Bunch Rick

Yours looks just like the one I had to replace recently on my 2000 camaro, but mine was on top of the tank. Yours looks much easier to replace. See link below. Fix Your Chevy With Your Own Hand

SOURCE: emissions control vent malfunction POO446

You need to pressure test and or smoke test the EVAP System. Your not going to see anything looking, unless you have a rotted or cracked hose. The gas cap probably was okey. Take it to a shop that (maybe) knows what to do and (hopefully) has the right test equipment. Also they need to use the scanner on it to start,to find the codes and follow a diagnostic tree for your veh

What do i do when my 09 silverado keeps showing a code po449

P0449 = Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) / Engine Management Computer (EMC) / Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a fault with the circuit that controls the vent for evaporative emission systems vapor.
This means either the valve is not working or the wiring to the valve is not carrying the proper signal to the valve, or from the valve back to the computer. If you are familiar with troubleshooting this type issue, this should give you indication of where to start. If not, bring it to a qualified mechanic.

Code po446 what is it

Its what is called the EVAP. system the code is for the vent solenoid .Gas vapor in a vacuum is drawn from the fuel tank when this vent is commanded to be open drawn into a canister filled charcoal and stored until the canister purge solenoid is commanded to open .
This happens when the engine speed is at a higher RPM level and is supposed to send the vapor to the engine to be burned instead of VOC'S going into the atmosphere .But its a crazy lie the last time I filled up more VOCS got into the atmosphere then a gas tank vent could do in 6 month or so .
You can try cleaning the filter in the vent solenoid it might work but the part is about 70 dollars its in the rear between the tank and the canister look for hoses .

No, the car is giving codes P0456 and P0440. Can you tell me what they are?

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
Now , did you just get gas? remove the gas cap, and have it checked, tighten it down good,, have the codes cleared, and then check for codes again,, this may be all it is ,,,

  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

Getting an error code of PO449 for a check engine light. this says it is the Evaporative Emissions Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction. I keep looking for a replacement part of the vent...

You are right. You need the vent valve not the purge valve. The vent valve is a dealer item. Also this is a common problem and GM has released a bulletin on this that involves moving the location of the valve and running some new lines. It comes as a kit from GM, and it costs about a 100 bucks.

p0443 is evaporative emission control system, purge control curcuit malfunction, p0449 is emission control system, vent control curcuit malfunction. p0449 is often a filler cap problem on fuel tank. try tightening cap

Code 449? what is this, anyone. tks

Code po449 is for bad  solenoid vent valve. After replacing the valve  check for the   12 volts at the "pink" wire.
This error relates too

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective.
2- Check connector and wiring.
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister.
4- Failed EVAP vent solenoid.

 --------

The cost of the vent solenoid valve is near to 30 bucks. And the valve is located near the gas tank.

Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

2002 Buick Century, when the tank is 1/4 full,

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction

The evaporative emission control system checks to make sure there are no leaks in the lines that run from the gas tank to the charcoal canister and up to the engine. It also checks to make sure the gas cap is sealing correctly.
It may just be that the cap was not on tight and the code was tripped.

A dusty environment can also clog the vent line and cause this code.
Have the code cleared and see if it comes back. Some auto parts stores like Auto Zone can read and clear the codes for you.
Hope this helps.
