Question about 2006 Ford Freestyle

Open Question

2006 Ford Freestyle had 'wrench' warning light come on and transmission seemed to be slipping. Turned off vehicle and started again and problem went away. Any ideas as to what this is a precursor to?

SOURCE: transmission slips bad on 2006 ford explorer

Needs to be reprogrammed at the Ford dealer. They had a software problem early on with the new 2006, but a software update fixed mine. Transmission was shifting weird and clunking. Now mine is fine.

Change your imput and output speed sensors on the transmission. Not covered by the drivetrain warrenty. I had the same problem!

SOURCE: do I need to change transmission fluid on my 2005 ford freestyle

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.

No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.

No solution. Just got the EXACT same issue last weekend. myfordfreestyle notes said to remove air intake and clean throttle body with basic tb cleaner. seemed to help, but getting some more engine reving during routine shift into park situations.

Any ideas out there? =H

'Bands' as they are sometimes called, are in automatic transmission systems and stop the different planet wheels from turning to give you gears. It is unlikely in either type of gear box.

There is no way to get around a proper repair on a computer controlled transmission, that is wishful thinking. What is the fault code that is memory? Have you even run the system scan yet?

06 freestyle wrench light came on , reved up. Restarted and now doing finr

When the Wrench Light (MIL Lamp) is on, you
have a vehicle system malfunction & should be
checking for codes within a couple of days & have
any diagnoses & repairs completed soon afterword,
or you fall into the abuse catagory & could damage
your vehicle
