If the starter is good and you can hear the click from the solenoid but the starter doesn't spin, it can only be three things: A bad battery, a bad cable going to the starter(the big one), or a bad starter ground, which is the ground for the whole block. You can get the battery checked at any auto store, and the ground problem is very uncommon. So if it is not the battery than you need a new starter cable.

Car wont start just get a single click

I don't know what testing you have done, as far as wiring circuits? You can see the starter fuse in the diagram, not only check the fuse, check for voltage on the fuse circuit, use a test lite to check for voltage. At the starter motor itself, two voltage circuits, one hot all the time, the other goes hot when starter relay is energized. Check those voltage circuits. The starter motor grounds through engine block.
You can unplug starter relay, use proper jumper wire, between terminals 30 and 87, the starter motor should crank the engine. If you try that, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.

1989 nissan pickup 4 cylinder when i turn the key to crank the engine i hear a click sound at the starter what could the click sound be?

could be battery . It needs a huge amount of charge to turn over the starter motor. It may work the headlights but be unable to turn the starter motor.
Suggest get battery tested at a battery seller to see if battery is really ok .
The click is most likely the solenoid on the starter motor clicking on.
You might be able to get someone to run jumper leads
Note +ve to + ve and negative to negative !
from their car while the engine is running and their car is not moving !
Wait 10 minutes
Then try to crank over your car engine .

I jump started a 4wd vehicle a month ago from my car and it took about 10 minutes to get enough charge in it to crank over the engine !

When I turn the key to start the engine, the engine does not crank and there is a loud, rapid clicking sound. I'm certain it has to do with the starter or solenoid, but can't recall my high school...

The rapid clicking sound is a low battery, or a starter motor that has a bad selenoid or is drawing to much current.

Check the voltage of your battery/ if you have a voltmeter, if not turn on the headlights and see if they get real dim when you turn the key to try and start the engine.

If you take the starter to Autozone they can test it for you.

You may also have some battery terminals that need cleaned and tightened.

Good Luck.

1999 Chevrolet Cavalier starter will not turn over the engine. What could be wrong?

Turn on the lights and sound the horn--if both work at the same time, then the battery and it's connections are ok. Do you get a 'click' when you try to start the engine? If yes, then use a test light on the starter motor terminal (not the solenoid terminal) to see if it lights when trying to start. If it does, then the starter motor is in trouble--probably worn or defective brushes, get a replacement. If no light, then the solenoid itself has a defective high-current contact. If you get no 'click', then there is trouble in the 'start' position of the key switch, a bad neutral switch on the transmission, a bad starter solenoid winding, or wiring troubles. Hope this helps!

My car wont start battery is not dead, but wont turn over?

if the battery is fine check if you hear a clicking noise coming from the starter motor when you turn the key to try and start the engine.
If you hear this noise then this is a good indication that the selenoid has failed meaning you need to replace the starter motor.

You can give the starter motor a hit with a piece of wood as some times this will get the starter motor working just to start the car but this isnt a permanent fix and could leave you stuck if you used the car.

Now if the starter motor isnt clicking but you hear a clicking noise coming from either the cars fuse box or the ecu when you turn the key to start the car then this would indicate a problem with the imobiliser this would need testing using a diagnostic machine as their is no other way of testing this to find out if its at fault.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Volvo 2.0 S40cd 1996 . Battery not flat but won't start , ignition lights flashing , engine won't turn over . Lights ok and central locking ok . tried to jump start from another vehicle but no effect .

hi, the problem you are having sounds like the starter motor has packed up if when you turn the key you get nothing or you might even hear a faint click, if you open the bonnet then get someone to turn the key you might hear a faint click coming from the starter motor. This click indicates the starter motor needs replacing.

you could try hitting the starter motor with a hammer give it a few good hard hits this might get the starter motor working for a while if not then it needs replacing at once if it works then this isnt a permanent fix so be warned.

Turn the ignition on my 330d fuel pump buzzing ok all the lights ok but no power to starter, no click nothing. shorted out starter motor terminals and motor works

test power to starter with a voltmeter while someone else turns the key. if you are getting power, than solenoid is faulty. If you are not getting power, than relay or ignition switch is bad. Do double check your battery connections to make sure they are metal to metal contact.
