Question about 1988 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

2 Answers

Brakes lights quit working. I have power at the brake/stop switch at the pedal and it tested ok. The fuse is good at the box according to the owners manual. Tested the harness at the rear of the truck and no power. Is there another fuse or relay? Or could it only be the switch at the pedal?

If you have confirmed that the brake-light switch is ok then you will need to test for power at the steering column. Power from the switch goes through a set of contact that run parallel with the hazard switch. You may just need to clean the contacts off to get it working again. But anyways, look there. If the contacts are good then look for bad wiring.

I have a 95 GMC that quit and there is a square rectanguler box, like the old buzzer box under the dash on the drivers side. The guys at the local Napa here knew what the problem part was.Don't know what it is called or if your 88 has the same setup as my 95.Well good luck and hope this helps.

How to repair brake light switch in 1992 Honda accord

The fuse to check is 20A fuse #42 (brakes & horn) under the hood. Use a test light or multimeter to measure voltage to body ground at both test tabs at the top of the fuse.OR YOU CAN REPLACE THE SWITCH WHICH IS ABOVE THE BRAKE PEDAL,AUTOZONE,20 BUCKS,OR CHECK THAT TAILLIGHTS ARE GROUNDED AND NO CORROSION.

Break lights dont work but blinkers and other lights do all bulbs are fine but when u push the breaks they dont work

Check under the dash for the switch hooked to the brake pedal assembly, this switch activates your brake lights, push the brake pedal with your hand does the plunger on the switch move? if not see if you can pull it down if you pull it down see if your brake lights are on if yes replace switch. if no, check it for power with a twelve volt test light, if you have power replace the switch. if no power check the fuse for brakes lights see your owners manual for location. Good luck.

2006 pontiac vibe brake light

All the lights stopping at the same time is not likely a fuse, it would be the brake light switch, the brake light switch is over the brake pedal near top of brake pedal arm under the dash. To test take a 12 volt test light ($5.00 at any auto parts store) and see if both side of the switch light the test light when the brake pedal is pushed, one side is hot with 12 volts without pushing the brake pedal down. The fuse location is in the owners manual but I am 99% sure that isn't the problem.

1998 chevey malibu 6 cyl---none of the brake lights work. i have changed stop lamp fuse in dash fuse box and the long brake light switch in front of brake pedal. any suggestions what to try next

have you checked the bulbs?. my next step would be to test for power at the brake light switch and then step on the pedal and see if power flows through on to the other side of connector, if it does then we know theres power and switch is working good, my next move would be to step on the pedal and have someone watch the brake lights and then with pedal pushed turn 4way flasher on and off and see if the lights lite up for brakes and then wiggle the signal light lever and see if the lights come on, if the brake lights come on when any of these steps are done then you have a bad signal switch, if this does nothing then i would look under the dash and locate the harness wiring from signal switch to it junction, this will be a block of wires held together with a center bolt, wiggle wires while on the brake, i have seen the power wire for the brake lights burn inside connecter, and last would be to check the wiring going to lights inside the truck, good day, hope this helps.

I have no brake lights. I checked at the fuse box under the hood and found it OK. Then I went to the foot peddle switch and found the switch OK but when I checked for power going into the switch none could...

Do you have turn signals ok?

Is your rear turn signal bolb the same one used for brakes?

Some turn signals are amber and some are red using the same bulb as the brakes. In that case the brake lights go through the turn signal switch.

But you would have power at the pedal switch.

No relay but there should be a fuse in the dash anel or under the hood if you have a battery box under the hood. Your owner manual will tell you where the fuses are and which one is hte brake. Usually a 15 amp.

Car brake light works with remote but not pedal

The alarm system usually uses the parking lights, not the brake lights so you'll have to test the brake light system. If your car did use the Brake lights absolutely,,, then your brake lights would be good & that would generally mean it's the fuse or the brake light switch.

I suggest that you check the fuse first with a 12 volt test light or multimeter, if it is good with current coming through, you'll need to test the brake light switch,, it's located just above the brake pedal, with the brakes applied you should be getting voltage at both terminals (my chart shows those wires as black/white) if so, then it must be the bulbs.

there are a few other options but this is the basic brake light system.

good luck.

My lights dont turn on when i push my brakes

FIRST CHECK AND SEE IF YOU HAVE POWER TO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ,IF IT DOES MASH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SEE IF BOTH WIRES HAVE POWER WITH IT MASHED DOWN IF NOT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS BAD ,BUT IF IT DOES HAVE POWER ON BOTH SIDES WITH IT MASHED ,BUT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE POWER TO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AT ALL CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE IN THE FUSE BOX ,THEN CHECK YOUR TIL LIGHT BULBS NEXT ,IF IT IS NOT ONE OF THE OTHERS.

My brake lights do not work for 1998 ford explorer

Check and make sure you have the right bulbs and fuses installed. However, it sounds like a wiring problem. Probably at the rear of the vehicle. If you are in a "snow" area state, the ice and snow formation can break or pull wires apart. Also, check your ground wires.
