The vehicle has an interference engine. This means that when the piston can hit the valves when not in time. The valves are damaged or bent or shattered . The head or engine most likely is going to have to be replaced.

SOURCE: timing belt went out, just
Unfortunately this is an interference engine, which means that the valves will collide with the pistons when the timing belt breaks. You could do a compression test to confirm this is what happened but if you notice that the engine seems to turn over really fast and kind of sounds like a sewing machine when doing so, you likely have bent valves and the head will have to be removed for repair.
