SOURCE: Check Engine light

that code definition is "Evap high purge flow fault". It means you may have a problem with the evaporative system. this system routes fuel fumes back to the fuel tank. If you want to try and clear this code, find the radio code for your car and then disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and the check engine light should be out. You will then need the radio code to reset your car stereo. the check engine light may stay off if the condition was a transient one. If not, the light will come back on after you drive the car two drive cycles. That is: two starts, warm ups and shut downs. If the light returns, have a mechanic check it out.

SOURCE: my 2001 Kia rio threw a P1166 code

Typically, that there's an issue with the Idle Air Control Valve. They're known for seizing/sticking on Kias.

It could also be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. They're known to be a little flaky on Kias. If someone confirms it's the MAF sensor, replace the wiring harness with it (trust me, worth it, as they're known issues too).

Another possibility is the Throttle Body Position Sensor. If it's hooped, replace it and the gasket. Yes, you guessed it, they're ALSO a known problem with Kias, particularly the Rios.

Yet another known problem is that some of these Rios left the factory with the breather and pcv tube hooked up into each other's connections. See if they're swapped and swap them back if neccessary.

Another factory issue is the timing sprocket set. Some Rios left the factory with one or both installed backwards (despite the very clear labelling stamped into the sprocket), which allows the belt to skip a tooth, and you end up with valve timing issues, and eventual cylinder head problems.

Bottom line is have someone look for these known issues first, because they're all fairly common, and it's usually some mixture of any number of them. Have whoever's doing the work on it check the camshaft seal and the intake air temperature sensor while they're in there- yup, more known issues with Rios- as well as the plugs (prone to carbon buildup in these engines) and do a pinout test on the ECM (prone to failure in the air/fuel metering capacity particularly).

SOURCE: Check Engine Light

check all hoses on vehicle especially around canister and make sure u have a factory gas cap
The canister purge solenoid is part of the evaporative emissions system. When it is commanded "open" by the PCM (computer), it allows fuel vapors in the fuel system to enter the engine. This solenoid basically acts as a valve regulating fuel vapor flow to the air intake system. By burning these vapors in the combustion process, the evaporation system helps to lower overall vehicle emissions. The solenoid circuit refers to the wiring used to control the function of this solenoid, and usually runs between the solenoid and the vehicles PCM.
any defect in the above mentioned canister working will cause your problem to happen

2003 kia rio Check engine light keeps comin on... Problem code is P1166 for O2 sensor heater circuit.... I replaced spark plugs n cables, cleaned maf sensor, ran some fuel injector cleaner and bought new...

You would need to use a scanner to watch the data coming from the sensor. In some cases the heater circuit for the sensor is faulty, and in other cases the sensor is reading rich only. It is supposed to switch back and forth between rich and lean depending on the exhaust gas content.
The heater circuit makes the sensor hot enough to use within 2 minutes of starting the engine.

Check engine light is on took to auto zone they gave me a code that said P1166

Hello there:
P1167 and P1166 codes relate to the primary O2 sensor heater malfunction.
there are two different O2 sensors, a "universal" sensor from Autozone and a supposedly OEM sensor from O'Reilly's. Both of them may cause the car to throw a p1166 or P1167 code and run rough. so i highly recommend getting a O2 sensor from Honda, and this will fix the problem .
It turns out that none of the aftermarket probes from Bosch or Denso will work on a ULEV (F23A4) 4 cyl. engine. Honda had different part number probes for the normal VTEC 4 cyl. and the ULEV Vtec engine and the probes look different and have different length cables. The computers at O'Reilly's, Autozone, or NAPA made no distinction between these two engine types.

I have a 2002 kia rio the code that came up is p1166 how do i fix

P1166. Primary HO2S (No. 1) Heater System Electrical.

Replace O2 sensor. Iif it smells rich then you are getting too much fuel. You may have a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or a leaking fuel injector. This can also be caused by bad oxygen sensors.

Hops helps (remember to rate this answer).

2005 kia reo check engine light is on ?

If you go to an advanced auto part store or another auto store they will sometimes scan your car for free. They should be able to tell you what is wrong with it.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my car. Mine did the same thing and it turned out to be the MAF.

Just remember to unplug your battery when you fix your problem. Sometimes the codes wont erase without the dealer going in and entering the "cheater" code. You'll be stuck with seeing the thing and not knowing if its fixed or not.
