Don't use any type of siicon or formagasket. It is too easy for some of it to get inot the oil passages and plug them. Instead coat the o-ring with oil and place it up inside and then put the canister in place. If it won't stay with oil on it a few small dabs of grease or Vaseline will hold it up while you put the canister back on.
There ae also kits available in the aftermarket to convert your truck to a spin-on filter set up. Check with your local autoparts store. Hope this helps.

1994 Jetta oil leak by filter, can the housing where the oill filter screws in get a crack or it just a seal that needs to be replace Thanks Jerry

I suspect that some how the spin on filter has been knocked loose and disturbed the integrity of the "O" Ring seal, or the spin on filter was put on wrong and pinched the "O" Ring seal. You will have to try a new filter and "O" Ring, which means draining the oil and replacing. When fitting a new "O" Ring to a new filter, be sure that the ring fits perfectly in the slot. Coat the "O" Ring with some vasoline to hold it n place. If the "O" Ring will not fit flat in the grove heat the "O" Ring in a pan of hot water for about two minutes. This will relax the ring and take out any folds.

Oil is leaking from where the oil filter screws in. Is that the oil pump? Only leaks when car is running, kind of pours out! I replaced the oil pan gasket and its leaking from that thing that te oil filter...

Did you check the old oil filter if the Oring is present when you remove it? If the not, the old Oring is still there, so, you have two Oring there, that's why is leaking. Remove the new oil filter and remove the other one O ring, the old one and then install it back, and don't forget to wet with oil the Oring before you install it back. ok

Oil leak at the oil filter base of 96 Honda Accord V-6

Nope, just replace the oil filter. The filter may be loose or if the oil filter was placed without oil on the O-ring before installation will cause the O-rings to fail. If the car is due for an oil change, might as well service the engine and replace the oil and filter. Good luck and hope it's not the oil pressure sensor which will leak when it fails too and it's most of the time located by the oil filter area in most cars.

I would like to know whre the oil filter is situated on a 2002 316ti BMW?

it's not so much an oil filter as it is an oil filter element in a cannister with a removable top. look for an aluminum looking circular thing with a 10mm 6point bolt head on the top center. That's your oil filter cannister housing. unbolt the bolt......lefty loosey rightey tightey and voila.....there's the oil filter element. It is in the engine compartment, accessable from the top, not the bottom of the car.

Sir,could you tell me where the oil filter is located on a 1998 (S plate) manual saloon 5 series bmw

Ahhhhhh easy one. The oil filter cannister is located not below the engine but in that aluminum looking cannister on the left as you look at the motor from the top.

There's a cap with a nut looking thing holding it all together. undo the nut take off the cap and voila....there's the oil filter. Be sure you pay attention on how it goes together. there are two O-rings and a copper gasket to put back correctly.

Who wants oil spewing out of the oil filter cannister assembly when you're driving down the road and the oil is under 35 psi? Not you, because it will ruin your engine pronto.

2004 Murano has an oil leak near the oil filter mounting backet.

The oil filter mounts on an oil cooler housing that has an o-ring on the block side of it. The housing is held in place by the double ended connector bolt that the oil filter screws onto one side and the other goes into the block. This should be tighten to 37 ft/lbs. prior to installation of the oil filter. It may be loose or the o-ring might need replacement.

1960 corvette oil filter

You may have double ringed the filter, this is when the old O ring stays on the filter base and you don't notice it, will leak like a sieve, pull the filter back off and check this.
