SOURCE: On my 1990 Camaro RS the starter is clicking while turning engine

Check battery condition. Sounds partly flat to me OR the earth straps that should be from starter to engine OR earth strap from body to engine is not connected properly.

Simply connect volt meter to battery earth and earth on starter and crank....if more than 0.2v then earth circuit is faulty.

Repeat as above but from +ve battery terminal to +ve on starter.....must be less than 0.2v or faulty wiring on this circuit.

U will need to bypass the factory VATS (vehicle anti-theft system) system, it is very simple and all you need to know is at the web page link below.

SOURCE: how do I disable the factory security system on a

The security system (VATS/Passkey) installed on these GM cars is anti-owner more than an anti-theft. There are 3 parts involved:

  1. The chip-key
  2. The lock cylinder
  3. The TDM (aka the brain of the system)
if any of these parts fails or is even slightly malfunctioning, the car stays stuck where you are and you only get a dealer asking you about 1,000$ to fix it. And all the 3 parts have a quite short lifespan. Way too many people got in this situation (including myself). I don't recommend any partial solution or any used parts as it would happen again way too soon to be acceptable and if it happens 100 miles from home (like it happened to me....) it's a big burden. I finally made it to save my beloved 94 Park Avenue (with the exact same system that is installed in your car) with a solution that I found on the internet and that bypasses the entire factory security system, all 3 pieces altogether and you can even remove the TDM at the end and use 99c keys without chip. The product I used is at and is still working perfectly after 5 years. Don't go to the dealer!

See if it is running on codes by hooking it up to a diagnostic machine. It may be something very minuscule and simple to fix which is causes your SEL to come on.

SOURCE: 1992 Camaro RS 25th anniv

I have a 1992 Camaro (V8 - Automatic) and I have a problem with it starting. I have power when I put the key in, but when I go to turn the key over, nothing happens. I know that it is not the starter, the battery or the key with the chip in it. Plug and plug wires have been replaced, fuel pump has been replaced and no problems with the battery. I have disconnected the airbag to replace it and still have the same problems. No blown fuses either. I have tried pulling out of gear and back in to make sure that it is registering that it is in park.

I asked a mechanic a few years ago if he had heard of any problems like mine. He said yes. He said there is a wire that is disconnected somehow in the column.

It happens periodically and I have to wait for it to start... sometimes for days. I have tried moving the steering and all. It will not start. No one else has ever heard of this. Have you? Can you provide another solution to this problem?

How easy is it to use a 2005 v6 3.8 in a 1997 rs camaro

Well to start with, the last year for the gen 4 Camaro was 2002. So what is the 2005 engine supposed to fit ? It would have to be for a rear wheel drive car, and even then I doubt it would bolt up to a mid 1990s chassis and transmission. Especially the electronics and exhaust.
A salvage yard would have the interchange books to tell you how many years would fit your model.

I have a 1991 RS Camaro v 8 I dont know if It is electrical or some fuse. It wont start .The headlights work so I know the battery works. The starter and alternater is new.Ialso know its not the...

does the car have a security system? if it does, it may be a fuse in the security system keeping the car from starting. have the battery LOAD tested, this will test the AMPS of the battery not the volts. you may even have bad battery cables(3) they do corrode over time.

Just take every cord connected to the positive side of the battery off for 10 seconds to allow the alarm to reset, then flip the little switch under the dash so the alarm won't activate again.
