One of the most common problems is a little switch in the base of the parking brake lever. If you apply the parking brake and the brake light on the dash doesn't come on then most likely this is the problem. The convertible top system will not operate without the signal that the parking brake is on. If this is not the problem then the switch, fuses, and system, including the grounds should be checked to find the problem.

MICHAEL, THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM, I ALREADY CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE THE LIGHT GOES ON ON THE DASH,, WHE THE PARKING BRAKE IS ON , I CHECKED THE FUSE . THE SAME FUSE CONTROLLS THE POWER WINDOWS AND THE CONVERTIBLE TOP AND THE POWER WINDOWS WORK PERFECTLY.

THE CONVERTIBLE TOP SWITCH IS ON THE DASH AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO TEST IT , I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET TO IT WHITOUTH BRAKING THE PLASTIC PANNEL WHERE IS MOUNTED, DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHOLE PIECE THAT GOES AROUND THE RADIO AND THE A/C CONTROLS?? , CAN YOU PROVIDE A DIAGRAM OR INSTRUCTION TO REMOVE THIS MOLDING WITHOUT DAMAGE??

    THANKS

The top release switch that is on your dash is fine. The switch I am talking about is around the parking brake (underneath the plastic) When this switch is not working it would cause the other switch to stop working too, it is part of the safety of your top release.

If you already tested the switch underneath the parking brake and checked the fuses then you will need to remove the actual top switch. To remove this switch, remove the plastic around the dash and radio. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the little covers that hide the screws and carefully remove each piece. When you get to the switch, unplug the back of it by pressing the clips inward

Can you hear the motor or anything broke when you hit the switch? Have you check your micro switches just behind your seat. The roof operates only when handbrake "on" (and your handbrake light will display on your dashboard) if it doesnt, it means your handbrake "switch" is 1. unplugged 2. damaged. (its usually unpluged due to use or hard pulling of the handbrake)
Take the left panel of your handbrake dash, then the top hood and check it out, just plug it back

Here is a picture of the relay you may need to replace

  • Anonymous May 16, 2010

The top relay is twice the size of the other relays. You can reach under the dash in unplug it

  • Anonymous May 16, 2010

It could also be a relay causing your top not to work, click on the link below to read more

There are 3 microswitches on the Boxster, one in the hand brake that triggers the "Park" light on the dash, a second switch in the top latch, that drops the windows a few inches when open and allows the windows to roll all the way up when latched. There is a third switch under the clam shell that indicates the top is fully open or fully closed . There is also a speed sensor in the top controller in the fuse box that prevents the top from opening if the speedo shows greater than zero mph. If pulling the parking brake triggers the dash light and the top still won't operate, the latch switch is likely the culprit. I recently replaced mine on my '99.

2000 Porsche boxter windows work top won't go down

Good Day,
I just looked at my wiring diagram and see that a fuse from fuse Holder D, Fuse D3,it is a 30amp fuse. I would start here. I may also be a good idea to have a test light if you plan on doing your electrical repairs.

I also see that another fuse connects to your top control unit; it will be fuse B6, 15amp located in fuse Holder B.

Thanks and good luck.

More than likely something is loose on the release latch. I had the same thing happen to my parking brake. You are going to need to drive it down to a shop. It should be a fairly quick fix.

Can the plastic window in a 2001 Porsche Boxter be replaced without replacing the top. The top is in excellent condition

Well of course the top is in excellent condition.

The plastic fades and uv rays killed it. Porsche hasn't figured out how to sew glass in there so they make you buy the whole assembly.

U think you bought toyota or honda didn't you. wait till the window actuator fails.

a lot more money!

Hi I have the same problem on my 1999 Carrea, I had the windows at the rear stuck down and the roof latch keeps open and closing, I have not solved this yet it could be a relay but it all started when I was opening and closing on the keypad, if you get the roof up and cant get the rear windows to close get the roof closed to a locking position and where the hood lock pulls back at the roof lock station slide a thin s crew driver up the side of the lock hook they close then, also a tip, if you stick your little finger in the hole where the hood lock goes and press both the rear window buttons up they close when the roof is down. if anyone knows why my hood wont lock please let me know
