It could be many other things. Have you changed the air filter? I could be extremely dirty or it could even be a vacuum leak that is making it run rough. Is there a check engine light on? If so that could help find the problem. If it's not something that simple you would need to start looking to see if all cylinders have the correct compression because it could be a blown head gasket or some other internal engine problems. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

What could cause it to idle rough

No codes? In the following order I would clean the idle air control, change spark plugs, check plug wires, check for vacuum leaks, run some fuel injector cleaner through your fuel tank.

97 Ford Explorer running rough code p0353

The code P0353 is for cylinder #3. (3rd one back from the front of the engine) on the passenger side. Follow this plug wire to the correct coil pack.

My engine is stalling and it shakes too much i put new spark plugs and wires and it stills run rought. what can it be?

what about the coil pack? If you changed wires and plugs you should also change the coil pack which controls spark to all the plugs. Make sure you put the right wires on the right plugs.

Hello Need help on a 2004 Ford Explorer. Having problems with Ford explorer rough ideal & missing. Changed plugs & wiring. Used Gas treatment. Change fuel filter & air filter also.

You have an air leak at the intake. Spray a bit of starting fluid around the intake. The engine will respond when you hit the spot. Replace the gaskets as required.

Engine misfires

You didnt mention having changed the spark plug wires, so that is another item that could be culprit as well. As well, it could be a coil pack that is not working properly.

I cannot recall at the moment if that model year uses coil on plugs or if it uses coil packs. Either way, if it uses a coil on plug set up, take the one for the #3 cylinder and move it to say #4 or anyone of your choice and see if the misfire follows

If it uses coil packs, there is likely one coil pack that controls two cylinders. In that case just swap the coil pack with an adjacent one and see if the problem follows. Pay attention to where the spark plug wires go because it will be an issue if you get them mixed up. You just swap the coil packs around.

I would, however, start with the spark plug wires if you have not changed them already.

2002 ford escort has a 2 and 6 misfire codes

i'd look into replacing the coil pack... quick way to tell... wear rubber gloves when you try this... so you don't get a shock or hopefully you don't. unplug a spark plug from the coil pack. notice any change. ..plug it back in and remove the next one. any change... when you remove one.. the motor should run rough if not it's likely the coil pack.

Cylinder 1 and 4 misfire on my 1997 Ford Explorer

The code description is a giveaway.
It could be one of the coils on the coil pack. Most coils nowadays do two cylinders each. This way car makers can get away with one coil for two cylinders.(lowers costs) One spark fires the air fuel mix in one of the cylinders and the other will fire the cylinder on the exhaust stroke. If the coils are removable, and you are fairly handy with cars, switch two around, the problem will follow the bad coil.
