Question about 2001 Ford Windstar

Open Question

I have a 2001 windstar that will not start. The battery was dead. Replace the battery and still will not start but does turn over. the right parking light does not work and i have replaced the light and socket with the other parking light and it still does not work, but both bulbs and socket worked on the left side... could this be the problem that the van will not start, maybe short somewhere or a bad fuse..

I dont think you'll find a replacement socket that will hold up any better and if you do please let me know where you found it ! Your local auto parts store should have replacements in stock. Also pick up a tube of dielectric grease and squeeze some into the sockets before installing the bulbs. This helps to disipate the heat and protect from corrosion. Also it is important to use new bulbs even though the old ones my still work.

Start with the battery and battery cables, fully charged and clean.
Next inspect wiring behind alternator.
Do a load test on the battery, if a-ok check charging system( should be 13.5 to 14.5 vlts) Check fuse box for these items, make sure the terminals are free of corrosion and are noy shorting out.If all ok at this point get wiring diagram of all circuits involved and see what they have in common and where it is . Then probe it to see whats up. repair as needed.

SOURCE: Replace alternator 2001 ford windstar van

Hi, first you disconnect the battery. then you need to take the belt off by the back pulley. But you don't need to take it all the way off. Just so you get the alternator belt off. I just replaced the one on my 1997. Then you have three bolts, and one small nut to remove . Then put all back together the way you took them off.
Take care

2001 ford windstar, van has been setting for a year, got my license back and went to start the van, no fuel pump noise, replaced fuel pump, started just fine drove it around for a day parked it now wo

Can you hear the fuel pump run, if not it may have failed again. I have seen new fuel pumps last a day or two and then fail. If your pump is working then replace the fuel filter. Anytime you open the fuel system, you should replace the filter.

Steering noise when turning right

Sounds like 1 bad CV joint. Not sure which side. Look at the front axles, and if 1 or more of the boots are torn then that one is most likely the culprit. If you can grab the axles, feel for free plat. A decent shop will be able to pinpoint the bad CV joint and either grease it and replace the boot, or more likely, replace the complete axle on the bad side.

If it continues have system checked by service station. The check charging system could be temporary until Battery is fully charged. If this caused any damage I would be suprised, we all have had battery drains from time to time.Good Luck.

Van won't start 2001 Ford Windstar, worked perfectly last night when parked. Wont Start now. Does not appear to be a battery issue. I do hear a slight whirring sound that might be the fuel pump, I also...

if it does absolutely nothing when you turn the key but you're SURE the battery is good or tried to jump it, it sounds like an interlock problem. there are several things that could be causing it but I would concentrate either on the gear shift interlock (has to be in park before it will engage the electrical system when starting) or the key itself. First thing I would do is (with my foot on the brake), shift it through all the gears then make sure it's in park then try it again.
