Question about 1997 Saab 900
If it is happening in all gears, the problem is probably related to the disengagement of of the transmission during shifting.
This can happen from a hydraulic master or slave cylinder (if a hydraulic system) being warn and not moving the clutch plates apart, warn clutch plates, a sticky throwout bearing or simply fluid level being so low the system has developed air bubbles.
If it is happening only in a single gear or two, the synchronizers for those gears are warn and the transmission will have to come out and require rebuilding.
