SOURCE: car is jerking engine light is flashing and smell gas

With modern cars it is bad when the engine light just comes on and the vehicle does something very different. It should not be driven. If the car is smelling of fuel and jerking it is because it's miss-firing (i.e. one or more cylinder is not getting spark but is getting fuel). This can be anything from electrical/electronic to mechanical like a broken rotor cap (as an example). The good thing, is that the light is coming on and a mechanic can check the ECU for error codes. Alternatively, you can buy or barrow one your self and check it out on your own (I think even certain auto-part stores will check it for you as long as you get in the zone;). 1996 is a good year for that since that is when OBDII started and all vehicles started using the same port to check for issues.

SOURCE: Car jerks and vibrates when at a stop lgiht

Sounds like it's misfiring. You've most likely got a fouled sparkplug(s). An engine that's not running on all cylinders will vibrate badly and get worse the faster you go. The AC will make the engine work harder therefore, increase the vibration. Decreased fuel economy is also a byproduct of a poor tuned engine.
If the plugs are good and you don't notice worsening fuel economy, the other main cause of your issue is a bad motor mount. This is noticeable when putting the car in gear you will feel a bump or "thunk". I'd definitely check the plugs/wires first. Best of luck with your problem.

SOURCE: car jerks while sitting idle at stop light

Soujnds like your throttle positioning sensor is going bad. This is the sort of thing that happens before they go completely out.

Car jerks when slowing down or stopped, CEL on

You said it all. When a car jerks it means it is not firing as expected which could be due to fuel pressure not adequate, air intake not enough or too much, sparks not been produce at the right time or engine management problems (sensors etc). from what you said i would start with locating the source of the oil consumption. If there is visible oil around the engine, this might not be cause of the jerking. If the oil leaks is not visible it could be due to cylinder\piston wear. Dirty air filter, spark plugs, plugged fuel filter and bad spark plug cable could also cause jerking so you might want to consider giving your car a tune up also

2000 intrigue, seems like right front wheel jerks, 3.5, 153k mi

The "jerking" can be normal because that is the wheel that the power is going to..
If the jerking is "too much" it could be out of allingment or could be a warn out bushing or a bad ball joint in the front end.. Jack up the front of the car (be safe) leaving the front wheel hanging free.. **** the wheel left to right.. You should be able to see if anything is loose or not moving properly..
