I think what you mean by rear plate is the plate next to the oil pan that covers part of bell housing and fly wheel. You take it off right after you take off the starter. To get the oil pan off on this Taurus is a huge job I just had to do it about three weeks ago on my wifes car the oil pan gasket needed changed. It took me a couples of days. The hardest part of the whole job was taking off the exhaust and y pipe with the catalytic converters attached to them and the heat shields that cover them. Once you finally get the bolts off the flanges attached to the manifold it still is a pain in the *** to wiggle it out from under the car. The O2 sensors on the down stream side need removed. If you need any data sheets or diagrams for your car just let me know

Instructions

1

Put the car in park and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the car with a jack, and support it with a jack stand. Put a block in front of the rear wheel to be sure the car doesn't roll. Disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding.
2

Remove the oil dipstick tube, low oil level sensor, oxygen sensor connectors, dual converter Y-pipe and engine rear plate.
3

Loosen the bolts holding the oil pan one at a time, and carefully remove the oil pan. You may have to use a mallet and a screwdriver to loosen the oil pan, but work slowly so you don't scrape the surface.
4

Carefully scrape off the old gasket. Clean the sealing surface of the oil pan with a paper towel or clean cloth dipped in solvent, being sure that the surface is perfectly clean.
5

Apply a small amount of clean oil to the sealing surface and put on the new gasket. Reattach the oil pan and torque the bolts according to specifications. Reconnect the engine components in the reverse order listed.
6

Lower the car with the jack, and remove the jack stand. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
7

Replace the oil with 4.5 quarts of oil, then check the level with a dipstick to be sure it's at the fill line. Add more oil if necessary. Your Ford Taurus will require between 4.5 and 5 quarts of oil.
8

Take the old oil to a garage or a hazardous waste facility for proper disposal.

I hav 2001 ford taurus 3.0 single head cam engine makes noise , mechanic said that oil pressure is low n need change oil pump. but oil light not comes on always, it becames on only driving, when I...

That sounds like a pump... the oil pump is inside of the engine. You need to drop the oil pan to gain access - however, you will need to pull the motor to do that.

Need to know how to remove oil pan with engine still in vehicle on 96 Ford Wind Star 3.8 engine. What will I have to remove to get access to it.

3.8L Engine Fig. 2: Oil pan assembly - 3.8L engine 89693g43.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Drain and recycle the engine oil.
  4. Remove the oil filter.
  5. Remove the dual converter Y-pipe assembly.
  6. Remove the starter motor.
  7. Remove the engine rear plate/converter housing cover.
  8. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan. To install:
  9. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  10. Trial fit oil pan to cylinder block. Ensure that enough clearance has been provided to allow the oil pan to be installed without sealant being scraped off when pan is positioned under the engine.
  11. Apply a bead of silicone sealer to the oil pan flange. Also apply a bead of sealer to the front cover/cylinder block joint and fill the grooves on both sides of the rear main seal cap. NOTE: When using silicone rubber sealer, assembly must occur within 15 minutes after sealer application. After this time, the sealer may start to harden and its sealing effectiveness may be reduced.
  12. Install the oil pan and secure to the block with the attaching screws. Tighten the screws to 80-106 inch lbs. (9-12 Nm).
  13. Install a new oil filter.
  14. Install the engine rear plate/converter housing cover.
  15. Install the starter motor.
  16. Install the Y-pipe converter assembly.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Fill the engine with oil.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20. Start the engine and check for leaks. prev.gif next.gif
