Question about 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

When starting the engine it runs fine. until i turn on the a/c. it seems that the compressor is not running right or the condensor is stopped up. because the idle of the engine goes up and down. it doesn't do it until a/c is turned on.

Jenifer, it sounds like the oil lines from the oil pump are clogged or the pump itself is defective. Please do not run the engine until you get it checked out. If the oil pump in the bottom pan is not pushing oil to the top of the engine the valves and cams are not being lubricated and will burn up...Bue, Bye engine!

2003 Hyundai Sante fe A/C fan and rad fan not turning Fast enough while A/C is on but work OK when engine come to temp. ac starts off cold then gets warm after about 5 miles.

make sure radiator and or condensor fins are not restricted with dirt , bugs etc. poor airflow across the condensor. high side pressure could rise too high causing compressor to cycle off and on and not cool the freon properly.not sure what you mean when you say you play with the relay and it comes on. compressor or the fan? pull the relay and look at the female pins and make sure they are not spread open too wide. is the check engine lamp on? sometimes computers will disable ac for some other faults. im not sure if you mean the compressor is turning off and staying off, or just not cooling well due to fan problem. if its turning off it could be a control head problem or the pcm disabling it for another reason. or if you are manipulating the relay then compressor kicks on you may have a bad relay. hope this helps

If the compressor is failing, or there is a restriction in the ac system, the compressor could put a heavy load on the belt and the engine.
Normally the ac clutch would slip and not kill the engine, but anything is possible.
I t could be something else electrical too.

Engine Overheats when AC is on..

It sounds like your AC compressor bearings may be overheating causing excessive drag/loading on the engine. No easy way to check this unless you can take the serpentine belt off when the car won't start and see if it is really hard to turn the compressor shaft.

The AC in my 2004 Honda Accord only blows cool air when I am driving at higher speeds. When I drive slow or am stopped, it's warm hair coming out. My mechanic said the compressor isn't working properly...

it is a premature failure, That does indicate a bad/failiing compressor, or low oil charge, to low freon. If you trust the mechanic then go witht he compressor replacement and condensor. Unfortunately most oarts stores/shops require the condesor to be replaced for warranty purposes on compressor replacements.

03 suburban ac problem

Put a new belt on it and spray the condenser coil in front of the radiator with a hose when it gets up to temp or the sound starts and see if it stops. Thats what I did today. Flapping/clacking stops for about 10 minutes until thing get hot again.A/C blowing cold air the entire time.

AC blows cold while moving, and gets warmer while I'm stopped

There are two fans behind the radiator. One is suppose to begin running when the AC is turned on. The other is to cool the radiator when it gets too warm. Raise the hood with the engine running and AC "on"and see if at least one fan is running.

A/C problems

A/C works on a principal of compressing the gas in the system and sending it to the cool condensor in the car where it cools the vehicle, then goes to the front condensor where it releases the heat generated by the process. Several things can be happening here; the front condensor is plugged up with bugs and debris and needs to be cleaned; the interior condensor is freezing up from moisture freezing on it; the small control valve that makes the whole thing work is freezing up and the system is on hole untill it thaws and then it starts working again. There could be a problem with the amount of freon in the system. In the front of the engine next to the condensor is a freon storage canister with a small glass window in the top of it. With the airconditioning running look in the window and see if there is fluid running smoothly thru it of if it is bubbly and foamy going by the window. If bubbly and foamy then the A/C needs to be serviced. The compressor clutch will not work untill the system has the right pressure on the safety switch in the system. Good luck, RAC
