Hes right dont mix them up, i have an 03,,,,, 4,7,,been doing this for 30 years, mine had a terrible noise, when i bought it, i changed the oil, added, oil stabalizer, its better but still lifter, or cam follower noise, left side, i diid find an article, in here that made sense, they are prone to cam sensor failure, and if the tensioner, has an issue they will missfire, and set cam sensor, codes, the cam and crank, sensor work in synch, comparing each others signal, on some engines, we can see, an asynch, signal, on the scan tool, get the covers off run the engine, look for oiling on each cam lobe. also, i can only remember having broken valve springs on chrysler products, have a good look at them, take a small, screwdriver, and gently move the spring, pry on it, with this style, engine overhead cam, oiling is critical,

If the oil pressure is good, likely you got dirt into a lifter while you were working on it. You can take it apart again and clean out the lifter, or add marvel oil and if the stuff that got in there is carbon and not sand etc, that may dissolve it, or replace the lifter. If I were to go through all the work of taking it apart again, I'd opt for a new lifter, Also make sure that the rocker and pivot aren't worn or you may be wasting your time there.
Never re-use a lifter unless it came from the exact location it had been installed in, and then, only on the same cam it was used on. lifters once used, establish a wear pattern and will ruin a cam very quickly if replaced out of order.

2002 grand cherokee engine tapping loudly

My first guess would be a failing valve lifter. They can become weak with age and not able to hold oil pressure.
Especially in an engine with that many miles on the clock.
If the noise is constant you may be able to find out which cylinder by running a compression test. maybe.

Excessive white smoke coming from exaust, and what sounds like a stuck lifter

White smoke usually is from a failed head gasket. The lifter noise bothers me though usually meaning that you have water in the oil, and may have done internal damage to either lifters, cam or engine bearings. Do not drive it and have it checked out immediately. Needing head gaskets is an expensive job but engine bearings etc generally means replacing the engine.

Average cost to replace lifters on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee 4.0

depending all that is done about $300 dollars thats 12 lifters test 12 push rods replase rods $4.00 each rocker arm cover gasket oil filter and oil change afterwords. This does not include any replacement of oil pump or flushing which may be required, also would recommend a top engine clean before doing lifter replacement so when you change the oil once.

1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo replace collapsed lifter 4.0l il6

What motor do you have? The V8, you can remove just the intake manifold and the valve covers/rocker arms to remove the lifter. The V6, I believe you need to remove the head to access the lifters.

My 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee stright 6 cyl keeps over heating!!!

Usually the electric fan(s) are temperature activated. I would look into the temp switch. If you're not sure what it is, go to the auto parts place and ask for one. This way you can look at it then hunt for it under the hood. It usually screws into the engine in the cooling system. Also, make sure the fan has a good ground. Check for power to the fan when the engine warms up. If you have a/c, turn it on and the fan should come on whether the engine is warm or not.

Hope this helps. Good Luck
