When you turn ignition key on ( not start ) does the checking light ,light ? Check fuse's for PCM , are they good ? Find a wiring diagram an check power an ground at PCM . Also hook up a scan tool an see if it will communicate with the PCM . That's how you check the PCM ! Also check the constant control relay module , these go bad an they have fuel pump relay , power hold relay , this powers up fuel injectors an ignition system !
when you pulled out the old ignition, your not supposed to move anything, other than clock the new one to have the keys match the old one. any ways sounds like you need to pull the tumbler out, and hold the outer case, while turning the key, then re-insert it in. plain and simple you just dont have it clocked correctly
sounds like ur ignition barrell wiring switch (inside the car where u put the key in, theres a wiring block on the other side behind the cowelling). dont know much about mustangs to be fair, if theres a relay relating to the starter/ignition it may be worth checking out. hope this helps
you could call a lock smith to remove the key, then call the ford dealer to have another key made.... i would probably just call and find out how much a new switch would be and you should get keys with it.... compare the two prices and see which is the lesser of the two evils....
I has an 86 Mustang that did a similar thing and it turned out that the battery actually shorted out. This happens when one of the plates inside the battery brakes off and then touches another plate. When mine died it was like I turned the iginition off. It wouldn't turn over even with jumper cables.
The ignition assembely is bad.You can have a ford dealer replace it but they will charge you big---or you can goto an auto parts store and buy one but then you have to have a key made.
