It sounds more like the starter solenoid on the starter causing the problem. you will have to remove the starter from engine and have it tested. Be sure to remove the negative wire from the battery before you do any type of work on the engine. hope this will help you.

What does error code 88888 mean on a 2001 Chrysler 300m?

Multiple clicking indicates a weak battery. Get a slow charger to bring it up gently or, if in a hurry get someone to do a jump start. Once running you will need to check gauges for a charging problem. If no lights indicate a bad charging system, you will need a new battery.

Starting problem

Hello LostLynne.
The most common issue is a bad contact in the starter solenoid.
This solenoid is part of the starter assembly and makes the high amperage battery to starter connection
When you hear the click the solenoid is activating but not completing the battery to starter contact.
If this is an original starter or been on for a long time I would suggest changing the starter assembly.
Also in your under hood fuse/relay panel there is a smaller relay that activates the starter solenoid that should be checked before replacing the starter. Although less common for that to happen it does occasionally cause a problem. Easy to replace too.
If you have further questions please ask me.

My 2003 nissan will not start. the engine turns over but it won't start or it acts like it about to start and cuts off. i know i need a new battery. could there be a problem with my starter

Then replace the battery first, yes, but if the engine stops turning over the starter may have a problem as well. Start with one thing at a time though so you narrow down what the exact problem is and don't replace more than is necessary. If it was just the starter having a problem often you'd hear a noise from it like a spinning sound or clicking sound but the engine wouldn't move.
