Question about 1999 Volkswagen New Jetta

Is there more then one temp sensor on a 1999.5 vw jetta 2.0 Litre? If so, does one control the radiator fan and another for the gauge? Can the sensor(s) be benched tested, if so, how?

The fan is computer controlled so in order to diagnose it you need a scanner to look in the computer to see what it sees. If your overheating at idle then most likely the fan relay or the fan itself failed providing the computer is ok. Try turning on the AC. If the fan does not turn on you may need a professional diagnostics to be accurate.

sounds like your temp control sensor is not working,this sensor is located on your rad has two wires coming out of it and is easy to change, if your car is running and up to temp and the fan is not powering up this is most likely your problem good luck.

Temp Sensor in my VW 2002 Jetta was replaced due to a Check Engine light and a code noting this needed to be done. Once complete my car began heating up. Coolant light came on and my temp gauge pegged in...


If your radiator fans are not running at all than I would check over the wires your disconnected when rpolacing the temp sensor. Make sure they are fully connected. That would be the first thing I would check.

2002 VW Jetta 1.8T: Coolant temp began rising to


volks 2001 1.8 T wolfsburgh . overheats to dangerous levels just after 2-3 min. of driving . let it cooldown an hour , drove again same thing 2-3 min. noticed fans not working , tried to crank the heaters inside , mostly cold air come in. easy fix or not?

There are two coolant temp sensors. One by the oil filler tube and one near the bottom radiator hose near the radiator.
When you flushed the coolant did you replace with VW rated G12 coloant? Very Important! - You can't use over the counter coolant - it'll cause sludge in your system. You have to use G12...

2004 Jetta GLS. Main cooling fan remains on after car turned off.


"Already had replaced: both cooling fans, fan control module, coolant temp sensor, fan switch, 4 terminal connectors. No trouble codes reported in VW electronic diagnostic test. 2 different VW dealers and and my mechanic threw in the towel. Any suggestions greatly appreciated."

This is a common problem with the VW..and no one has an answer WHY. (including VW mechanics)

THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE and should be implemented

need more info, do you mean on the dash or the controller, How do you know its not functioning? There are 2 sensors on the fox one is on the radiator and other is on the engine check to see if it has 2 0r 3 conections when replacing Im a wiz at foxes Ive had a den of them
