My 2002 Mazda tribute ran hot. I found out my heater connection was broke. But when I replaced it. It still ran hot and now it taps real loud when the motor gets hot.

Need to discover why it is running hot to start with but not drive if it is causing the motor to get noisy. Overheating can be due to a thermostat stuck closed, cooling fan not turning on, low coolant level etc. Need to get to the bottom of the overheating before engine is damage badly.

Ran Hot Won't Start

You just blew your head and gasket. I just had that same thing happen last month. When it over heated is the time that you blew the engine head's gasket. When you kept driving it is when you damaged your engine head. You also should have noticed that the as soon as you put water in the radiator that it was leaking out back of engine from the freeze plug or plugs. Cost of freeze plug is couple bucks "looks like small cup cake tin." The Freeze plug has to be replaced 1st, but depending on how bad the head is damaged you could get off cheap by pouring in a $40 gasket sealer liquid down into the radiator and lots of water to keep the water level up. I would also remove the thermostat and put host back on. Since your car is older that I do not think it ruined the values or rods.

Coolant ran out of the bottom of the car. Nechanic found hose leak. Car is running rough while sitting. Could it be a Gasket?

if you haven't had any coolant in your car for a week and you have been driving it you may have blown your head gasket, even though you haven't got 'milkey goo' on your oil dip stick. check for goo under your oil cap to see and have it tested at a garage. but from what ive read im almost certain its your head gasket. hope this helps you and beware of the dangers of a running engine so keep hands and loose clothing out of the way of moving parts and engines get very hot so be careful what you touch.

What could a fairly loud thunking noise coming from my engine be when turning off my 1984 chevy van 20?

First let me say it is NEVER good to drive a car overheating , you can ruin very expensive parts. It hurts your engine and your wallet. If permanent damage has not all ready been done , have it towed to your trusted shop, it sounds like your water pump has failed

Loud noise coming from the engine check gauges light on ran hot would not start until last night started up but still has a loud noise like something is lose

If the engine ran hot [overheated] long enough then there may be some internal engine damage such as a scored piston or damaged cylinder head. If the engine was hot enough when it was shut off or stalled it may have had to cool down for a while before it would restart. You might get lucky and the noise is being caused by something simpler such as a water pump bearing or drive belt pulley. I'd start by checking both the oil and coolant levels then inspecting the water pump and drive belt for any faults. If the noise is coming from inside the engine then you'll most likely need to have a service facility take a look at it to see where the noise is coming from. Good luck, hope this helps!

Radiator leak

SOUNDS LIKE A LEAKING WATER PUMP ON THE ENGINE, HAVE A SHOP PUT IT ON A LIFT AND LOOK FOR THE EXACT SOURCE OF THE LEAK, DON'T DRIVE IT THIS WAY YOU WILL BURN OUT THE ENGINE.

Engine temperature running above normal no heat in car cooling fans are working. ran hot for one mile stopped car could hear hose hissing dont see any water leaking out of bottom.Or where hoses go into...

Hello... The noise you hear could also come from a vent valve. The problem sounds a little like a bad water pump or thermostat or both. They can go bad without any leaks that can be seen.

Hope this helps....

The car turns over but it wont start there is not water in the oil. it ran hot. could it be my head gaskets

The plastic upper intake manifold will leak water into the combustion chamber and drown out the plugs or may cause a hydraulic engine lock. How far did you drive it hot? 3800's are not known for having a head gasket problem. I have seen some rookie mechanics change the head gaskets and replace engines only to find out that it was the upper manifold after they cranked it up with old one on it. Do you know if it was leaking water externally or why it ran hot?
