Pontiac grand am GT 3.4 v6 do not hove crouse control my tourq converter is stuck how do i fix i changed tcc silonoid and presher contole i need HELP??? thanks irwin_wooley31@verizon.net

    To replace the tcc and the pressure control solenoid you need to remove the transmission. They are on the valve body behind the side cover in the drivers side wheel wheel.

'98 Pontiac Grand Prix SE PO742 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit stuck on Trac off light and service engine soon light stay on


When the PCM detects 3 occurrences of TCC slip between -20 and +50 RPM for 5 seconds, indicating the TCC is applied, when commanded OFF, then DTC P0742 sets. DTC P0742 is a type B DTC.
The PCM energizes the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve Assembly (TCC Sol. Valve Assy.) by creating a ground path on circuit 422. When grounded (energized), the valve stops converter signal oil from exhausting. This causes converter signal oil pressure to increase and move the TCC apply valve. The TCC Sol. Valve Assy. de-energizes when the PCM no longer provides a ground path. When de-energized, the valve will exhaust fluid and release the TCC
Diagnostic Aids

Check for PRNDL DTC P0705. DTC P0705 affects transmission operation. This may set DTC P0742 falsely.

Install the Scan Tool .
With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
Important: Before clearing the DTCs, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records for reference. The Clear Info function will erase the data. Record the DTC Freeze Frame and Failure Records, then clear the DTC.
Start and run the vehicle.
Select TCC Slip Speed on the scan tool.
With the transmission in D4, drive the vehicle through the 1-2 upshift.
In second gear is the TCC Slip Speed within the range specified?
-20 to +50 RPM

In order to verify your repair, perform the following procedure:
Using the scan tool, clear DTCs.
Operate the vehicle under the following conditions:
• The gear range is D2, D3 or D4.
• The commanded gear is not 1st.
• The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM for 5 seconds.
• Not in fuel shut off.
• The engine torque is 95-270 N·m (70-200 lb ft).
• The throttle position is 14-50%.
• The PCM commands the TCC OFF.
• The TCC slip speed is 150-2000 RPM for 5 seconds.
• The engine speed is 800-4000 RPM.
• The vehicle speed is 32-112 km/h (20-70 mph).
• The speed ratio is 0.65-1.18.
• The last gear change occurred more than 3 seconds ago.
Select Specific DTC. Enter DTC P0742.
Has the test run and passed?

2000 Chevy Blazer high RPMs - started after oil & gas & air filter change - fuel injector flushed with cleaner - Idles in P & N around 600rpm but when driving jumps to 2500 + , makes a whining sound


Their are a few things this could be .
Likely related to the brakes /crouse control / abs /system .
The TCC Tourqe converter control receives information from the brake switch CC and ABS this tells the transmission what gear it should be in .However the V VS vehicle wheel speed sensors on each front wheel also send a referance voltage of ,5 v to the VCM or PCM witch ever you happen to have bolth do the same thing computer .
But their is a 3rd vvs sensor on the transmission witch monators the speed the drive shaft .
In short one of these sensors or switches are lying to the computer and makeing the transmission do crazey things you just need to figure out witch one it is
Look for something that isn't working quit right in these systems it will be a suttal thing gust like your problem

Unfortunately, the possible issues are numerous. The problem is most likely either your torque converter, or electrical issues with your transmission. Without knowing how the vehicle is acting, if it's drivable, when it trips the codes, etc, it makes it more difficult to accurately diagnose.

Here is what ford says about those codes...

SERVICE PROCEDURE
The torque converter clutch may not engage if one or more of the following conditions exist:
- Stuck converter regulator valve
- Stuck solenoid regulator valve
- Stuck bypass clutch control valve
- Stuck pressure failsafe valve
- Pump bore ring groove depth incorrect
- Worn pump shaft or damaged pump shaft seals
- Pump shaft internal sleeve loose (rattles)
- Turbine shaft seals damaged or missing
- Incorrect Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid
- TCC solenoid mechanically stuck or electrically inoperable
- Damaged internal wiring harness
- Incorrect gear ratio (wrong sprockets)
- Damaged or worn stator support
- Worn torque converter hub bushing
- Torque converter clutch worn or damaged
Use a scan tool to monitor the following PID's:
- TCC = Commanded duty cycle for TCC solenoid
- TCCMACT = Actual slip across the TCC, measured in RPM
- RPM = Actual engine speed
- TSS_SRC = Actual turbine shaft speed
- TCCRAT = Speed/Gear ratio of torque converter/transaxle

Took 2000 Pontiac grand prix to garage and the codes he got were Po 742a, Po446a. the mechanic had said it had something to do with the torque converter....after reading a little bit online I am a little...


If it is a torque converter clutch solenoid (or tcc solenoid). You do NOT need a new transmission or transmission rebuild. You just need to replace the TCC solenoid.

Code scanner says torque converter circiut stuck on. 1998 Grand Prix


The code scanner is indicating that the TCC or Torque Converter Circuit (Clutch) Solenoid is on all of the time. The TCC solenoid must be replaced to fix this problem which requires taking a pan off and replacing a spaghetti-like wired contraption known to go bad that is a solenoid that controls the TCC.

Torque converter locks up and wont release until it cools off


U may need to replace the torque converter and the torque converter clutch control solenoid inside the transmission it is mounter to the valve body, there is one thing you can try 1st, change the fluid in the transmission and the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid, use the new GM spec DEXRON VI transmission fluid, there is a good chance you can fix this by doing these cheaper service and part replacement, if that doesn't work the tranmission must be removed and the torque replaced
