What engine? It has done this more than once?

  • aldaloga May 15, 2010

i m not sure what size the v6 engin is but i think that it is the largest size. why would the oil filter have so much presure that would or could cause the filter to swell up and loosen to the point that it would lose it's seal and cause the oil to drain out in just a few sec while the engin has been started up and shut off very quick. the people at wal mart is where i had the last oil changed and my thought was that they hadn't got the filter installed tight enough. when they tried again two times with new filters each time they both would swell up and force the oil out in a few seconds. they said they had never seen that happen befor and neither have i and i have been driving for 65 yrs.

The oil pressure regulator is stuck. If you have 3.8, which is the largest v6, you need to remove the oil filter adapter to access the regulator valve and spring. On the 3.4 engine I do believe the regulator is in the pump in the oil pan.

I had a problem kinda like yours once. It took me a while to figure out why but finally found that from a previous oil change the rubber gasket from the old oil filter had come off and stuck to the car so when I would put a new oil filter on that has a new gasket I was ending up with 2 rubber gaskets on at once.

Try adding a table spoon of DOT3 brake fluid to the engine oil to make seal swell (stop leak). The low oil sensor will disable the ignition if more than a quart low. The engine has to come out to replace the seal (expensive).

How to change the gasket on the oil filter adapter

Easy fix I just did. (replacing the oil filter adapter gasket which is a common leak). Remove the air cleaner tube and housing. Release the tension on the belt. Remove the two front bolts on the air compressor. They are nuts but the stud will come out too which is fine. Under the car loosen the third air compressor bolt. This will give you enough room to loosen the hidden bolt on the oil filter adapter. It only needs to be loosened as the adapter is slotted there. Remove the other two bolts on the oil filter adapter and remove. Replace the gasket and install.

Chevy Silverado threw all the oil out around the oil filter. Changed the filter, but that wasn't the problem. What could be causing it to lose all the oil?

Take th oil filter off and make sure there is only one gasket sometimes the old one will stick there and the new ones cannot make a good seal

Hi, has anyone checked for stored trouble codes? There are a number of things that can cause your stalling problem, I have found bad connections at the ECM you maybe loosing the crank signal there. Also these motors are know for the distributor shafts to wear and short to ground causing you to loose spark and shut down. Hope these help lead you in the right path of diagnosing the problem.

!993 Explore 4.0l When I accele I feel a surge in power..

so you gave it a tune-up?

possible causes of of loss of power:BAD SPARK PLUGS AND OR WIRES AND OR DISTRIBUTOR CAP.

GASOLINE FILTER PLUGGED THUS CAUSING YOUR ENGINE TO HESITATE. "loosing power"

AMONG OTHERS BUT THESE ARE THE MOST COMMON.

maybe the engine is worn......old engines tend to loose pressure and they start eating the oil, and also start smoking real bad.

this one is another casue of power loss too.
