That is not good. They are rubber mounted for vibration, over tightening the belts will pull it apart, it takes years, but they do fail. They cost about $100, and are not easy to replace. You need a big pulley puller and a big breaker bar with a socket for the crank shaft bolt. Hope this helps.

You would need to use a puller. Looks like a chicken foot on steroids.

The serpentine belt is falling off durning wet weather

Hi Brenda !
I am sorry to hear about your problem with your 99 voyagers serpentine belt falling off in wet weather !
I am suggesting that the harmonic ballancer is at fault.
The harmonic ballancer is the pully that is on the engines output shaft on the front of the engine (the transmission is on the back side of the engine).
I am assuming that the rubber bushing that holds the outer ring with the serpentine belt pully on it has detatched and is causing a misallignment of the pully to the belt , causing the belt to glide off.
I am unsure how this relates to wet weather though...

Inspect the pully by turning the vehicle OFF and looking in the wheel well behind the tire. There is a plastic shield there to keep the water durring wet weather from spraying on the belt and accesories... look and see if the plastic has been damaged (possibly a round 'rub thru' where the harmonic ballancer pully rubbed it ?).

Your harmonic ballancer is shot.
With the engine off , key out of the ignition... grasp the belt that goes down to the engine crank and see if you can make it turn a little ... if you can , you will see that the outside of that bottom most pully turns ... while the crank does not...
Replace the harmonic ballancer with a new unit... ( used ones are 90% junk by the time you get em from a bone yard...)

There is a cut out on the passangers side to access the bolt you need to take out... it is behind the tire , so the tire must be removed to access it...
easy fix ya !

How to install a crank position sensor for a 1995 pontiac bonnevill sse

you need to remove the harmonic balancer, it is the biggest pulley at the bottom of the engine, behind that is the crank sensor, 2 screws and unplug the wire and the sensor is off. You will have to have a harmonic ballancer puller though

Where are the timing marks on a 78 gmc 1500 supposed to be? drivers or passenger side? i think ours are missing.

on your harmonic ballancer, sound like your pointer is missing,When you look down at your Harmonic balancer there should be something about it that you see that looks kinda like saw teeth with numbers in the gaps. The zero or line whichever year you have should be on the Harmonic balancer

Removing harmonic balancer on 96 regal 3.8

YES YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE A SPECIAL ADAPTER FOR THE NORMAL BALLANCER PULLER. NAPA HAS THE TOOL AND THE # IS BK700-2461. ONCE AGAIN THE ADAPTER IS USED WITH THE BALLANCER PULLER YOU ALREADY HAD. YOU HAVE TO SCREW THE EXTENSIONS INTO THE BALLANCER AND INSERT ANOTHER EXTENSION INTO THE CRANKSHAFT TO GET THE OLD ONE OFF. WHY G.M. DID THAT TO US IS STILL A MYSTERY.
