There are 2 kinds of speed sensors:
wheel speed sensors which are mounted behind each wheel and tied in with the abs brake system,
Vehicle speed sensors which are screwed into the side of the transmission/trans axle, which operates the speedometer.

It uses the ABS wheel speed sensors through the ABS control module I do believe.

2000 Nissan Maxima P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction. Changed the Revolution Sensor and the problem wasnt fixed just got worse. Where else should I look to fix this problem?


Hey I actually had the exact same thing happen to me I had to replace my oxygen sensors low bank 1 and 2 they cost 99 and 117. Hope this help I was upset I spent 124.99 on the output speed sensor and it wasn't the problem. Hope this help sensors on Nissan is a headache

check your thermostat and possibly your cooling fans and temp sensor for the fans

Make sure there is no debris in front of your radiator or ac condenser

The speed sensor (transmission revolution sensor) is located on the left side of the bellhousing near the top. Access is through the driver's side wheel well.

Speed sensor location on a Nissan Maxima 2000 gxe


There are two speed sensors one is called a revolution sensor that is located on the case of the transmission. You can take the driver side wheel off and see the sensor on the top of the case of the transmission. A 10mm bolt is holding it in. Easy fix

Check your air hoses's and air mass meter, air sensor. sounds like its getting to much air.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2000 nissan maxima with an automatic transmission?


It should be on the top of the transmission behind the starter and has a few wires and a wire connecter.
