There is no prevention
the temperature change in out 4 seasons does wonders to the cars electronics. The circuits are thermo sealed which is good when new although the weather contracts the thermo seal therefore cracks form and the circuitry will short out

I have a 1987 chevy S10 4x4 xcab pickup . it just died one day i rebiult the TBI and put a new computer in it and new coil in . Have checked all the fuses . and it will not start .do you know what i

Check if you have spark (coil or ignition problem) Next consider what you did when rebuilding the TBI as there may be parts that will only operate in one way or settings that have to be adjusted. Lastly is the new ECM compatible with the system (immobiliser) Use a scanner to reset the ecm program

I HAVE OPEL VECTRA B(ENGINE X16XEL)MODEL 1999 THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN SUDDENLY DURING DRIVING AND NO FAULTS ARE RECORDED IN THE ECU

Check gas and spark. Check if fuel pump is still working. Do you have fuel pressure? Or can you check the fuel pressure? With key on, the pump should have put fuel under pressure in the lines and up to the injectors.
Check ignition system by checking for spark at one of the spark plug wires, with the engine cranking over. You need to see a blue, snapping spark to know the ignition system is good. If no spark on one wire, check another or all of them. If no spark, and no trouble codes-could be a bad crank position sensor. This sensor helps the computer calculate the timing of the spark, the main sensor the computer uses to signal for spark. It signals to the ignition control module (which controls the coils and the primary current to the coils ((the coils-where high voltage is created to cause spark at the plug)) ). So no spark? Could be a bad crank sensor...or a bad ignition control module...
If you have a single coil and not a coil pack, you might want to test that coil, but if shut down while driving, sounds like computer related, so check ignition controls: that would be crank sensor or ignition control module, or in worst case a bad PCM.

78 f250 battery backwards

Could be fusible Master link which is sometimes around battery and runs to fuse box. Looks like fat wire and melts connection from battery to body.

Another possibility is the wires to the Ignition switch. Most are inactive until the Ignition is turned on, but with reversed polarity things can happen.

Fusible Relays. You are lucky most of your truck is not computerized. But there may be an Ignition relay and a Light relay. Some had a grey module on the distributor.

Test for the fusible link first and see if it has melted. If you have power to the fuse box, check that there is power on the power side of the panel.

How do you check the ignition module on a 1997 s10 blazer 4.3 v6

There were a few module testers made that were supposed to be able to test these but I found that many modules would test fine at room temperature but would fail once they had fully warmed after the vehicle had been driven for a while. About your best clue it to check for spark when the vehicle has stalled. [if this is what's happening] If you have spark then the module is good, If you don't have any spark then the module might be bad but there could be other problems that are preventing the module from attempting to fire the spark plugs also.

1984 Ford Bronco II new distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs, control module, coil, starter, alternator, carburator, fuel pump. Put new control module on yesterday had spark for a little while, but now no...

Low battery voltage can keep the coil / ignition control from firing. You need a good 12V to get everything working right. Get a full battery charge and try again. It might also be flodded by now.

88 nissan truck wont start

I traced a similar problem in my truck to a rubber bumper on the clutch pedal which had disintegrated so the disengage switch was not being closed, preventing the ignition from working.

I bent a piece of aluminum flashing to contact the switch when I push the pedal to the floor and it works every time.
