Had it in the shop for tuneup, new plugs, rotor, wires, etc. New fuel reg. good spark. Now what? Seasoned mechanic could not find the prob. Also engine light goes on and off. Won't stay on long enough to diagnose prob.

Likely not. Check it for spark when its hot. It might be an ignition module or coil problem.

Hey I have another Idea. Does this have a vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator? What engine? 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder?

How come the bad rating???? When it won't start you are saying it has spark? If yes then it might be an ecm problem. If not check the ignition module and the coil. I can tell you how to do this. 3 cylinder?

Did not mean to give you a bad rating, sorry for clicking on wrong things. Thank you for advising me on these things. It is a 3 cylinder and the mechanic that tested it last has all the computer stuff to check all these things but say it's running fine. This is my sister-in-law's car and I drove it yesterday and it not only has difficulty starting when it's warm but sometimes stalls when you are moving from a stop and give too much gas. It almost feels like a choke problem. In order to start it when it's warm, you need to press the pedal to the floor and hold it down, then after about many times it will finally start.

O.K. if you have to hold it to the floor to get it started when its warm its flooded. This engine is throttle body injected. When you shut the engine off, (warm) Take off the air filter and see if the injector is leaking gas into the intake when the engine is off. Another thing you could check is the coolant temp sensor. Are you seeing black smoke from the exhaust when its running? Does it idle rough when its warm?

Why will my 1995 Geo Metro not start?

You have a pick-up coil in the distributor that tells the computer when to fire the injectors, I would guess this might be your problem, you are getting fuel to the injectors, but not into the engine.

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove intake air hose between throttle body and intercooler.
  3. Remove accelerator cable.
  4. Unclamp PCV and fuel return hoses from deliver pipe.
  5. Unclamp injector wiring harness.
  6. Disconnect injector coupler.
  7. Remove cold start injector pipe from delivery pipe.
  8. Remove vacuum hose from pressure regulator.
  9. Remove fuel feed hose from delivery pipe.
  10. Remove pressure regulator from delivery pipe.
  11. Remove delivery pipe with injectors.
  12. Remove injectors from delivery pipe. To install:
  13. Replace injector O-rings and lubricate with fuel. NOTE: Make sure injectors rotate smoothly. If not, probable cause is incorrect installation of O-ring.
  14. Check if insulator is scored or damaged. If it is, replace with new one.
  15. Connect delivery pipe with injectors.
  16. Install pressure regulator to delivery pipe using a new O-ring.
  17. Install fuel feed hose to delivery pipe.
  18. Install vacuum and fuel return hoses to pressure regulator and clamp securely.
  19. Install cold start injector pipe to delivery pipe using new gaskets.
  20. Install injector coupler. Clamp injector wiring harness.
  21. Install PCV hose to cylinder head.
  22. Install throttle position sensor coupler.
  23. Install accelerator cable and adjust free-play.
  24. Install intake air hose to throttle body and intercooler.

I have a 2003 325i. the car starts fine when its warm out or its been in the garage. when its been out in the cold it will crank but not fire.

Many 325's and 330's have this problem. What type of fuel are you using? If its a lower octane try using a higher 89 or 91 octane and put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner on your next fill up. Hopefully its just your injectors being a bit clogged from using lower octane fuel. Also, try using the same fuel stations and not jumping around to save a few cents, some stations have much more impurities in their fuel.

Have you checked (or replaced) the O2 sensor. This can cause the engine to run bad at cold temps if the sensor is bad
