1992 Chevy silverado will crank but run at a low idle..when I mash the gas it shuts off

There are a variety of problems that could cause that, but if you mash the accelerator and it dies, you may want to put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail to measure your fuel pressure. Assuming you have the V8 350 in it, that engine can require upwards of 30psi at the rail, and even a few pounds less can cause it to stall. You may have a dying fuel pump or clogged filter. That's where I would start, hopefully this helps!

Why car wont crank, but can smell gas

IT IS LOOKS LIKE A FUEL PRESSURE LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE OR DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING . TRY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. AND CRANK THE ENGINE IF ALWAYS CRANK WITH OUT OF FUEL (CRANK WITHOUT START) YOU HAVE FUEL LEAK INSIDE THE ENGINE
REMOVE THE INJECTORS RAIL UP EVERYTHING CONNECTED,PUT BACK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TURN THE SWITCH ON AND FIND WICH ONE IS LEAKING. (GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE TAKE CARE)

Engine dies

if it shuts off while driving down the road. and restarts after 10 minutes, its usually a bad crank sensor that does this. it messes up timing and shuts off fuel supply.

Sounds like a loose electrical/ignition connection or electric fuel pump issue.
Check all of the wiring, connectors, grounds, witches, etc. for loose connections

I have a 1987 bronco 2, the fuel gauge isnt working at all it says i am empty all the time. what shoudl i do to fix it?

This problem in a Ford is caused by a defective fuel gauge sending unit inside the fuel tank, the tank must be removed to replace the sending unit.

Car turns over but won't start. Driving down the road and it just quit running...like it ran out of gas. There is plenty of gas in the tank.

it could be your fuel pump or filter....there is a check valve on your fuel rail it looks like were u put air in a tire its a litle nozzle like that.....get a little flat head or somthing nd turn your car over then push the nozzle on the fuel rail in gas should shoot out of it...or get a fuel pressure tester u hook up 2 it nd it tells u how much psi its putting out

1998 dodge dakota will not start??.....is the sending unit the only thing sending fuel to the fuel injectors? Thanks

There is a fuel pump in the gas tank that pumps gas up to the fuel rail on the engine going through a fuel filter along the way(usually on the inside of the frame rail drivers side). The sending unit has more to do with telling your fuel guage what level of fuel is in the tank. You also have a fuel pressure regulator before it gets to the injectors that keep the required pressure in the fuel system to make the fuel injectors work optimally. Best thing you can do is get a fuel pressure guage and see what the pressure is up near the motor where there is a fitting on the fuel rail that looks like an overgrown tire air fitting.

The problem started out after refueling a very empty tank,..made a few stops and starts...then it wouldn't start up again.... The engine would crank but it seemed like there wasn't any gas,..eliminated the...

Did you check your fuel filter to see if it didn't get filled up with **** when you ran it our of gas? If you follow the fuel rail up going into the fuel intake, there should be a fitting somewhere on the line that looks like an oversized tire air inlet. If you can get a fuel pressure guage, turn the keys on a few times till the pump shuts off, then check the fuel pressure. If you don't have a pressure guage, push the needle with a screw driver and make sure there is good pressure there(carefully of course).
