SOURCE: fuel sending unit

Hey nflplayer_7,

Smart move. I've got the schematics and I only see two wires.

The Black wire should be a frame ground.
The Pink Wire goes to the instrument cluster

Get back with me if the colors are different. I'll trace them for you.

I need to know if the other gauges are accurate. There is a voltage regulator mounted on the back side of the dash that can go bad and often does, that will make the other gauges inaccurate also.

What colors r the wires that go to the fuel gauge on a 2000 Chevy s10

If your fuel guage is not working check the ground wire on top of.fuel tank. Most of.the.time the sending unit in the tank is bad....not good news there. Most part stores sell the unit with a new fuel pump only. Cost you some green backs there. More bad news... the fuel tank has to droped to replace it... i my self find it is easyer to unbolt the bed of the truck and raise it up on blocks. Then you can see your wire loom and check your wires with the fuel tank in place.

Peugeot 307 HDI fuel gauge on empty flashing

Earth I am assuming is the GROUND for the tank or sending unit. Ground wires are usually black or green. This doesn't mean that it's not another color on your car, but black and green are the usual ground wire colors. Make sure that you have removed any rust that may be around the sending unit keeping it from being properly grounded to the tank. I'm not familiar with Peugeot, but I have seen many other similar problems with other vehicles sending units. If your gas tank is metal, make sure that it is grounded to the vehicles frame. Sometimes tanks depend on the mounting straps to ground the tank. They can rust and lose a good ground. You can also try manually grounding the sending unit to the tank or to the frame to see if that is the issue. If none of this works, it may be that your ground wire is broken somewhere between the sending unit and the dashboard which could be quite difficult to find. Good luck!

P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

Hi,

Do you have the fuel level sender in the tank or do you have it out of the tank. It is muck easier out of the tank and better results are given. If the unit is still in the tank, you can ohm the sending unit. The wire colors to the resistor are light blue(pin 6) and gray (pin 1)

The only way to test if the sending unit is functioning is to take your ohm reading/add more fuel and see if the reading changes. There are no specs given from GM.

If the code comes back, the sending unit in the tank is no good. The only reason that the code would reset after filling is that the resistor on the sending unit losses connection.
Unfortunatly it is a common GM problem....

Just put a new sending unit in it and all will be well.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Faulty gas gauge

Most of the time its is the sending unit in the fuel tank. The test for it is to use a variable resistor that is hooked up to the wiring at the fuel tank and watch the fuel gauge if the gauge works ok thats makes 100% sure its the sending unit. At 245 ohms the gauge should read full, 180 ohms for 3/4 full, 160 ohms for 1/2 tank, 100 ohms for 1/4 tank and 42 ohms for empty. The color of wires at the fuel tank is purple wire and black wire. You can also use fixed value resisters. If the fuel gauge the wires from the sending unit to computer then to gauge for bad connections, shorts, broken wire and bad grounds. If the wires test ok that only leaves insterrment cluster or computer which even most dealers can't test eather one but the insterment cluster would be a more common problem then the computer. But about 95% of the time it will be the fuel level sensor in the gas tank that causes the problem. Good luck.

What are the color of the wires going to my fuel level sensor at fuel tank

hello, not sure of the colors but if you are having problems with the fuel gauge its most likely the sending unit on the fuel pump. I have owned about six of these Dakotas and every one of them had this problem at one point in time. Best thing to do is get an aftermarket fuel pump and replace the whole thing about $170 for the pump with sending unit . Hope this helps Good luck

Gas guage doesnt work

It sounds like a problem with the fuel gauge sender unit in the fuel tank which has worn out and gone open circuit and needs replacing. Access to the unit is usually through a removable plate in the floor in the rear of the vehicle. Disconnect the wiring connector and any hoses and then remove the securing screws. Replacement is done by reversing procedure.

Do you have to drop the tank to change the fuel pump on 93 plymouth voyager or is there a way from the top?

Yes the tank must be removed

Fuel Pump: Service and Repair
WARNING: The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel
system component.
FUEL PUMP REMOVAL
1. Release fuel system pressure.
2. Fuel tank must be removed prior to fuel pump service.
3. Using a hammer and a brass drift, carefully tap the fuel pump lock-ring counter-clockwise to release the fuel pump.
4. Remove the fuel pump and its O-ring from the fuel tank, and discard the old O-ring.
5. Cover tank openings to prevent dirt from entering system.
FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REMOVAL
1. Gently bend the sending unit locking tabs away from the sending unit.
2. Remove the electrical connector cover (red). Remove the sending unit wires from the electrical connector.
3. Use one screwdriver to push on the fuel pump body, and use another to release the sending unit locking tab from the sending unit.
4. Slide the sending unit assembly off of the fuel pump reservoir housing.
5. Pull the wires through the reservoir body and fuel pump cover plate.
FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT INSTALLATION
1. Bend the sending unit wires and lay them into the slot on the back of the sending unit.
2. Slide the sending unit into the slots on the fuel pump reservoir body. Slide the wires through the triangle shaped hole in the fuel pump reservoir
body. Check that the tab in the fuel sending unit locks into the detent in the fuel pump reservoir body.
3. Slip the wires onto the tab of the fuel pump reservoir body.
4. Slide the sending unit wire terminals into the electrical connector. Install the terminal locking cover.
5. Slide the fuel sending unit electrical connector into the bottom of the fuel pump electrical connector. Check that the connectors are securely
attached and fully pushed into each other.
FUEL PUMP INSTALLATION
1. Wipe seal area of tank clean, and install a new O-ring seal on pump.
2. Position fuel pump module in tank and secure with the lock-ring.
3. Using a hammer and a brass drift, carefully tap the fuel pump lock-ring clockwise to lock the module in place.
NOTE: Do not overtighten the lock-ring, because the fuel pump seal could split and leak.
4. Install fuel tank assembly.
NOTE: ASD and fuel pump relays remain energized for 7 minutes during the following test, unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is
turned to the OFF position.
5. Using scan tool, place ignition switch in "RUN" position and use Actuate Output Test "Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay", to activate fuel pump and
pressurize system.
6. Check for leaks.
