Some extra information: the car computer has been read, but it's a general error which is not specified. some fuses had been changed and the big connector with all the wires was a bit greasy from some oil at the bottom of the motor. Everything was cleaned. It went oke for 1 day but now the error is back. somebody also told me it could be that some speedsensor my give trouble. if the transmision don't get a signal that speed is increasing it stays in, my case, at first gear.

Thanks for thinking with me. I drive it more then once in reverse, brake, shift in drive and the problem stays.

  • teamideall May 14, 2010

I forgot to inform you that the fluid level has been checked and the oil is oke.

I think testing the TCM for the exact fault codes is what they didn't do. Maybe they don't have this software to do. Monday I will check if they can do this and be back if we progress in the problem, also if not.... thanks

Thanks very much! I will follow your advice pointing me in the right direction.

Has the Transmission control module (known as the TCM) been tested for fault codes? if not have the car tested by the dealer or by an Aamco transmission repair shop, Aamco does the testing for free, this is not the test for OBD2 engine and emission system codes, that will only return a P0700, that code means that the TCM has requested the Powertrain Control Module (known as the PCM) to turn the check engine light on, that is when the TCM must be tested to get the actual transmission fault code(s), it is poss u have a defective TCM, only the proper testing testing with the scanner that reads the TCM will reveal what is going on, so get the TCM tested. remember there are 2 separate computers in the truck, one is the PCM, that controls the engine and emission system, the other is the TCM, that controls the shifting of the transmission.

Since testing the TCM is an absolute must to trey and find the cause of this shifting problem I don't understand why you rated me so poorly, i gave you the basic information to find out what is wrong, any more repair work without the testing of the TCM is just throwing your money away, have been doing this 35 years and do what i am saying here is correct and any transmission shop will brear me out on this advice, could u please change the rating u gave me. thanks

  • teamideall May 14, 2010

Sorry maybe I don't understand the system of question and reply. And no doubt that you help me very good. For now I let my repairs do in a shop which don't have the software for this TCM I think. I can check this on Monday. If so I go to the dealer as you suggest. But the dealercosts in Holland are not as they are in America. Sorry again ! I'm very pleased with your advice! Can I return to you from next Monday if needed ?

Testing the TCM for codes is not a software issue, the test must be done with a Jeep/Chrysler special electronic scanner, the dealer has this, any Chrysler dealer has this special scan tool for the TCM, not just jeep dealers. I am an American and know this system, trust my suggestion and follow it if you want to ddrive your truck anytime soon.

I have the same problem, what happened after the Jeep underwent the scan? my 2.7 crd was at the dealer yesterday and they want to replace the transmission??

Yes that is one of the outcomes of the transmission testing, but you must always rule out electronic control issues before deciding the transmission needs to be overhauled.

The question I have is, how is it stuck. Are you saying you cannot move the shifter or is the transmission not shifting out of first gear when you start from a standstill? .

Hi! You may try these procedures. Check the automatic transmission fluid level first and add if lacking. If you notice that the fluid is burnt have a fluid change for it may cause of stuck ups too. If the fluid level and texture is fine please follow the last procedure. Put it in reverse then drive a little, hit the brakes, shift it to drive. See how it goes. Hope this helps and have a good one.

I can understand and emphasize that you would like to fix this problem yourself. However It seems that the transmission needs to be checked by a professional with transmissions. I have been in the field for over 15 years and I am one of the leading diagnosticians in the NYC area, and I do not do transmissions. You need a qualified, quality transmission diagnostician.

no gears, smackes of stick shift. after all A/T never shift gears
they use clutches totally, (but have plenary gear sets)
"NO gears ," does hat mean its stuck in neutral or the wrong gear.
if in neutral the foot clutch slave is leaking, lost all clutch fluid from the filler?
if the gear shift fails to shift, that is another matter, are all gears dead ? and stuck in netural?
