SOURCE: eng oil leak/3.8 Ltr. eng.

check oil filter, sometimes gasket from old filter is still on engine and when tou have 2 gaskets, (the old one and new one on new filter) it will hemmorage out oil pretty quick. next time check to see if gasket is on old filter when it is removed. I found that out after $30 worth of Mobil 1 poured out on my driveway.

most likely front cover o-ring. there is a small $4 dollar o ring behind the front engine cover, that leaks. Pretty common problem on your car.

SOURCE: 1998 mustang gt coolant leak

I just had the same problem. Ford design the intake manifold with plastic water crossover which cracks. The coolant will leak onto the top of the block and and then down the back of the engine. This intake design is a known defect and was ocvered under by Ford for 7 years past the date of mfg. The crack either is in the crossover or the thermostat housing. I happed on this when I found the same leak and traced it back to the thermostat housing. I changed the thermostat, but it leaked worse. You can pickup a aftermarket for $200 and it's about 4-6 hr job to replace.

SOURCE: rather severe oil leak from the area of the oil filter

Remove the filter and check to see if it has an extra gasket. (sometimes the old one remains on and new filter is installed on top of it.) If the leak is coming from between the engine and the "device" Likely an oil filter mount pad or extension, make sure the bolts that hold it on the engine are tight (Don't turn them really really tight or they could snap) . Clean the area off all around the leak and put it back together. If leak is still there you may have to replace the gasket at the block. If the device is a sending unit with a wire on top, change it...that is your oil pressure sender...they often leak.

SOURCE: Isuzu rodeo leaking coolant from engine

V6? If it is the water pump, the timing belt and tensioner should be replaced too. The timing belt operates the water pump and has to come off. A LOT more than four bolts! Get it pressure checked. Sometimes the leak maybe a small coolant hose leaking and running down the front of engine, like throttle body coolant hose or an oil coolant hose on this suv.

Oil leak on driveway coming from front of engine

Dear Sir,
Here is the oil leaking Problem Identifying Technique

Engine oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are common.

  • The intake manifold plenum gasket may leak and cause increased oil consumption/burning and a spark knock during acceleration; the gasket should be replaced.
  • External oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets (front or rear), and the rear crankshaft (rear main) seal area are common. The rear main seal is an unlikely source. Normally, the bearing cap mating surfaces (as well as the sealing surface between the oil pan and bearing cap) are the source for the leaks.
  • Engine oil leaks at the distributor can be misdiagnosed as leaks from theintake manifold seal, oil pan gasket, or rear crankshaft (rear main) seal. A revised distributor is available if oil is found inside the distributor.
  • If the oil filter casing shows signs of distortion from excessive oil pressure, theoil pump should be replaced.
  • Often misdiagnosed as a leaking oil filter gasket, the oil filter adapter can seep from between the adapter and engine block.
  • Carbon buildup on the top of the piston is common. As the buildup increases with mileage and over time, symptoms may vary from light ticking, to ticking/hammering, to hammering/knocking noises. Fuel injector cleaner often solves the problem.

Hi i have a 1994 dodge caravan it is leaking oil can this be fix im worry that we would have to save money for a van for my kids thanks

The Chrysler minivan products all had leaking problems. I have had 5 or 6 different Dodge or Plymouth minivans from 88 to 99. How bad is it. The most common thing is Valve cover leaks. Front and rear seals in the engine leak as well as the oil pan gasket. If its leaking a little bit at a time open the hood and look at the front and rear of the engine. Do you see grease and oil that has gone down the sides of the engine? Do you see a lot of grease on the engine with some clean streaks going through it. You may be able to see where its leaking from. If you know someone that knows what their doing have them change the leaky gasket/s. If not you can probably have it repaired for less than buying another van unless other things are seriously wrong with the van.
    Hope this helps... Dale

Bad oil leak using 1 qt. every 150 miles no excessive amount of oil seen in engine compartment for that amount of leakage. oil is around front of motor.

sounds like a front seal. it is 13 years old and they do go bad. take a search on youtube or buy a repair manual on eBay and decide if you want to take on the job. if not you will have to pay someone to replace it as it will not just go away. it is a toyota so should be good for a quarter million miles assuming all the owners have taken good care of it. if you are past that mileage you may want to consider a rebuilt engine swap instead of replacing one seal.
