u need to run a fault code test, both key on engine off and key on engine running, your local dealer can do these tests, the results are key to fixing the problem

it has a p0708 and p1451 stored in ecm, but these codes were there before the repairs. it had a p0171 but it is not there anymore after replacing upper intake seals, i checked all fuses, they are ok.

U NEED A ACTIVE TEST RUN TO SEE IF THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM SET A CODE, ALSO DID U DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES AFTER THE REPAIR, IF NOT DO SO TO RESET THE IDLE LEARN FUNCTION.

  • jlgomez27 May 14, 2010

i disconnected the battery for longer than 5 minutes, still acting up, not sure what an active test means, i have my scanner hooked up and looking at the stft bank 1 is between 21 and 31% and bank 2 is about 12-15%.

A LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL CAUSE A FAST IDLE NOT A SLOW ONE, SO THE INTAKE LEAK IDEA IS INCORRECT.

  • jlgomez27 May 14, 2010

any other ideas? I am out of them, when I first got it it had a misfire on cyl 3, I checked spark and seems normal. the P0303 did not return

an active test is run using a Ford scanner, it take the engine through its paces, runs the idle spped up and checkes all the main sensors while the engine is running and returns KOER fault codes, the are musch diff from passive memory codes.

Thanks, but I do not have access to a Ford scanner, I bought mine from the Mac tools man.

Sounds like a vacuum leak at the manifold. spray wd40 or simillar around manifold to check for leaks. if you find a leak, engine will flare up.

When my car warms up it will not stay started it will die unless i keep my foot on the gas petal to prevent it from dying

Change the sir-filter and fuel-filter. Also clean out the air-filter box the filter sits in. If the problem persists, remove the air-intake duct that goes to the throttle body for obstructions. Also look at the air-horn and throttle-plate. Is there carbon in the air-horn and throttle-plate? If so, carefully clean the airhorn and throttle-plate with a clean, dust-free rag sprayed with automotive solvent.

If you still have the pronlem, you might consider the engine temperature-senser.

1996 honda accord rough idle and dies

Do the following

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

91 Lumina won't stay running; see lots of same question for same car but no problem solvers....Please help.

On electronic fuel injection pumping an pumping an pumping the gas pedal does nothing without the engine running ! Pushing the gas pedal to the floor will cause the PCM - engine computer to go into clear flood mode .

You have some very interesting ideas here , but not really how it works or is !

The vehicle will go into closed loop fuel control when the engine coolant temp reaches a definded temp an the O2 sensor get hot.

She would run for a couple minutes and die which is open loop when running, closed loop is when the sensors kick and it would die. Pulled spark plugs, they were black meaning no spark. Can only be 2

Black spark plugs indecate a rich condition , over fueled , wet spark plugs indecate no spark .

Have a 1991 or 1995 Intrepid and car died, tried to boost the car gave it power than died, we noticed corrosion on the posts so cleaned the posts. (Noticed lights and power was coming back on when...

did it stay running when connected to the car giving the boost? if so then the alternator is not charging the electrical system, get it serviced or replaced.

Wont hold idle will start with foot depressing gas pedal will run with foot on gas but stalls when foot removed

Check and clean Idle air control valve. Make sure its responding to signal as well. Also make sure ther are no vacuum hoses disconnected. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to start.

Dies when drive

My 99 Explorer would not run unless you held the pedal to the floor. Found out ford has a recall on their intake gaskets. If you see what the intake gaskets look like you'll wonder how the motor runs at all. I had that prob for 50,000 miles and I changed those gaskets and now it runs like a new ford.
