Question about Ford F-350

1 Answer

I have a 99 F350 7.3. Every now and then starter will not turn over after running. It doesn't seem to be time related or anything else. I can park it for a couple of hours come out to start it and nothing. Instrument lights come on but when you turn the key it won't turn over. It is like a contact not picking up the starter solenoid. I can come back that evening and it will start right up. It doesn't appear to be a battery or cable related connection. I'm not able to diagnose due to I'm always alone when it happens. Something in the starting circuit, contact, relay ???

Intermitten are nasty tings to find, could be a relay or even the starter, keep a hammer and next time it happens tap the starter and try again, if it fixes it every time or most its the starter.

2006 Ford Expedition will not start this morning, battery checks 12 volts, will not do anything when turn key to start position

You can jump starter relay to see if starter will crank the engine. Pull the starter relay, use jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87, terminal 30 is hot all the time and there is a fuse, the starter motor should crank the engine. If you try that make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. Two voltage circuits at starter motor, one is hot all the time. The other goes hot when relay is energized. The starter motor grounds through engine block. Battery positive and negative connections are important.

1991 Lexus LS 400 ignition locked doesn't turn past ACC

First things first, if you can not turn the key lock past ACC you are not doing anything with the starter. The problem with the lock must be in the lock or the linkage connected to it.
The price for the starter may be fair depending on where it is coming from.
You have to be able to turn the key to the start position before anything happens with the starter.

2006 jeep wrangler automatic transmission drifts in park

I can't imagine how the drifting in park and the starter won't crank the engine could be related.
It is possible something happened to the flywheel and it is not now connected to the crankshaft, or the bendix gear on the starter is not engaging the flywheel.
But the transmission has a pawl or gear that locks the output shaft of the transmission when the shifter is in park. That gear could be damaged and would allow the truck to roll in park.
And the parking gear would not have anything to do with the starter issue.
I think I would check to see if the flywheel is connected to the crankshaft first.
Is the truck still under warranty ??

Ran my car just fine then all of the sudden when i went into a store for no more than five mins and came back out my car just did one click when i turned the key, tried to jump it and yet still didnt turn...

Seems like the battery is ok, and has enough power. Have the starter solenoid and the starter motor checked. usually, if you hear a clicking, the solenoid is working alright, so the problem is probably relater to the starter motor itself. Make sure that the shifter is SOLIDLY in the park position, jiggle it a couple of times to make sure it isnt slightly out of park.
