Go to any auto parts store and buy a can of maf sensor spray, follow directions on can. remove maf sensor (manifold air flow). from car do not touch insides of maf sensor it will ruin it. spray maf sensor on a flat bench and let dry. when dry put back on car. a lot of times the sensor gets contaminated with dirt etc. even a dirty or oil filled air filter can mess up the sensor. so make sure filter and hose are clean.

Hi Paula,

You didn't mention if you changed the plug wires.

You mentioned replacing the camshaft sensor. Have you checked the Crankshaft Position Sensor? Or the Mass Air Flow Sensor (may need cleaning)? Or the Throttle Position Sensor?

Need to know how to clean a mas air flow censor on a ford econoline van 91

I don't believe this year model uses a mass air flow sensor, but a map sensor . but to clean a mass air flow sensor, you have to remove it from the sensor housing, then look at the wires in the sensor, then take a cotton swab with alcohol on it and very gently rub the wires with it.

1991 Ford Mustang 5.0 L HO, had been setting up for 10 yrs. cranked & ran good a few trips around the block, and then stopped idleing or running smooth under 2,000 RPM. Could it be the Mass Air censor?

Mass air flow would probably shut you down. You could clean Mass Air Flow Sensor and see what happens.Try scanning for codes then looking for vacuum leaks. Use a propane tank with a gauged nozzle to help look for vacuum leaks.

Where is the mass air flow censore located?

Follow the 4" round Black plastic/rubber pipe from the airbox to the engine, it connects to the MAFS

It will have about 5 wires going to it. Th part number will be something like:

*** 906 461 *

Hope this helps

1997 ponitac bonneville turn off after traveling a few miles

Check the connector to the mass airflow censor...located just behind the air cleaner in the metal part of the throttle body.

Start the car and wiggle the connector if it shuts off or stumbles the connection inside the mass air flow censor is faulty. Replace censor.
