Of coarse it does. The battery was probably okey. The Alternator has nothing to do, with starting a vehicle, but the solenoid on the starter does.
Pull the starter and put on a new solenoid.

Briefly installed battery backwards. 2000 Ford Ranger. New Battery, new alternator, but alternator not charging battery. Truck starts on battery-new starter motor. Lights work, all electrical works

Is this the alternator that was in the vehicle when you hooked the battery up wrong? If so, you probably blew out the voltage regulator in the alternator.

Interesting.
You may need a wiring diagram for the engine.
Unplugging the regulator turns off the alternator which should not affect the ignition system. Unless it is over charging somehow. Or the alternator load on the engine is causing a missfire to be worse.
Its possible you have a ground problem somewhere too.

Just replaced battery in 1988 Ford Ranger. The battery light after about a month started coming on and going off at irregular intervals? It usually remains off. What could the problem be?

The alternator is starting to go out interminly the battery light has nothing to do with the battery being good or bad, the light is letting you know the the alternator is not putting out voltage, only when the light is on.Go to any auto parts place and they will do a free alternator test, but if the light is off more then likely it will pass the test, it needs to be tested when light is on.

1988 Ford Ranger truck, new battery and new alternator but car won't start, it just clicks?

the clicks are a signature of a bad battery, since your is new, it probally is not bad, i would try to jump the car with cables, even though your battery is new, you dont know how long is sat ont he shelf before you took it home, may be weak, 1 good jump to get the motor going and the alternator will charge it right up so wont have to so it again....

the only other thing is the starting system left to look at if that dont work is the starter, try banging on it a little with a hammer, not to hard though, as someone turns the key, this will sometime free up a locked up solinoid.

Good Luck

My 2000 ford ranger and something draining battery

bad alternator possible or bad battery..even though its new that battery can be bad. I would take a volt meter and with the engine running check the volts of the battery..If the volts are 12 you need to replace alternator, if volts are 14 you need to check the battery. to check the battery hold the volt meter to the battery and have someone start the car..while the starter is cranking battery volts should not drop below 10volts.if they do your battery is bad.
