Question about 1992 Isuzu Trooper

The alternator on my 1992 Isuzu Trooper fried (green smoke pouring out) changed the alternator charged the battery checked all fuses; still no power car will not start (no clicking sound absolutly nothing) What else could be fried? help!

Poss the solenoid to the starter...if it dont click then its it.

1998 trooper new alternator and still not charging and alternator bench tested good,
Check main 80 amp fuse in engine compartment and also check fuses in inside fuse box, there two in that one. first is engine fuse 15amp and the 10amp gauge fuse,

Here is the wiring diagram for the charging system as you asked for , also check connections, follow battery wire off the back of alternator make sure connections are good , that wire runs to engine fuse box and that is one fuse that i said to check it is 80amp, hope this is helpful good day9_30_2012_10_15_05_pm.gif

1997 Isuzu trooper discharges when I drive. 4x4, brakes, and battery light clicks on and off. discharges when it clicks then charges with next click. HELP!!!battery and alternator tested good. changed alt...

You say the alternator tested good, on the car or off ?
There are two fuses from the alternator to the key switch, a 7.5 amp and a 15 amp. There is also an 80 amp fuse from the alternator to the battery.
I would check these fuses and the connections at the alternator, plus the ground between the engine and the frame.

Did you find out a solution to your problem? I have a 1996 trooper that is showing most of the same symptoms that you have. I'm curious as to your fix. Was it simply a bad ground?

do the head lights work????????that is first
becaus it works key off a speaks volume to any tech

wild guess:
battery installed backwards or you made sparks
remove it or alt or starter.
fuses blew.
easy peasy japaneezy
or worse,there is always that.?

elaborations. pretending HL work.
buy and $10 voltmeter and end the guessing?
5min work and bingo.
wow this fuse has 12vdc one side and 0 other.?
or key on fuses, same.

there are many ways to do this.
start at end work back
start and begin (key) and work forward
or the middle (cuts job in half too)

so i go to the starter solenoid first.
if head lights dead i work them first....
starter 3 lugs.
outboard lug first.(batter + is battery installed backward?)
got +12v on the big lug (y/n) (outside lug)
connect meter neg test lead to battery neg lug for all tests.
if voltage drops fast? or does cranking
bad battery ,starter shorted or cables (or discharged battery) (we use an ammeter to discover shorted starters,or hand turn engine for seized engines.
next tiny lug, (called Key Line)
it goes hot 12v? cranking. so turn key.
does it go hot? (hot means 10to 12v cranking0
if yes, goes hot cranking on the tiny lug
(yes starter dead , or the battery minus lug is loose , the far end of minus bat cable must be tight.
no? that means the KEY line is dead.
the car if a/t tranny cuts the key line via the P/N switch,or some immobilizers., i stop here on key line, ask.

some cars have wire fuses, looks like wire, and are not. "fusible link wires"
if you change out starter or alt without battery neg lug not disconnected in step 1 ,you risk main fuses under hood(blowing or far worse)
so what does "good fuses mean" OP? (the looks)>?
or just dash fuses. tested skipped under hood.
fuses that look bad are
fuses that look ok, can in fact have hair line cracks so we actually test them or waste Huge time.
and go poor. (tests done wrong are highway-to-h3ll)
or looks like dog chasing his tail.

Brake light on, gas light on, battery light on. Dashboard lights.

Hi, that would be your alternator needs to be overhauled. The battery light is usually a good indicator that your alternator is not charging.
You'll need to get the bearings,brushes, and vacum pump seals replaced. Hopefully the regulator is ok, but they will test this when you get it repaired.

In short your alternator is not charging....

it sound like you might have a incorrect/faulty relay in the bonnet i think it says charge on the fuse box cover , have you fiddled with any of the relays under the bonnet does the engine actually run when the lights come on ,anything leed up to thuis problem,ect ect , elaborate a little more

the answer to your question is [no]the first thing you have to do is check your main fuses you will find one is blown you will have to[ replace]and no you did not fry the battery that what the fuse is about,the fuse is located around the battery its quite heavy 40 amps it desined to lock out any high voltage.adrian;;;;

1. Remove battery terminals and secure them away from the battery posts using nylon wire ties.

1a. Fine some comfortable eye glasses (clear or yellow) and keep them on. There are plenty of opportunities to get debris in your eyes during this procedure.

2. Spray "PB Blaster" (loosens bolts) on two bolts that secures alternator.

3. Jack-up vehicle on side to access alternator. Use a jackstand to support.

4. Using a 10mm open-ended wrench, loosen the bolt that swings the alternator. Screwing the bolt "in" or toward the engine will allow play to increase in the alternator belt. Loosen the 12mm bolt slightly next to the 10mm bolt (approximately 1.5" toward engine).

5. Continue to loosen 10mm bolt until there is enough slack in the belt to remove the belt from the alternator pulley.

6. Remove belt. It may be possible to remove belt without removing fan faring. Maybe not. If not, you will need to remove plastic fairing. If you must remove fair, go below fan fairing and disassemble connectors that hold together pieces of fan fairing. Carefully remove.

7. Install alternator fan from above.

8. Check that alternator belt is on all tracks (from below with a flashlight), and slowly tighten.

9. Secure 10mm and 12mm bolts. Recheck tightness.

10. Reassemble battery connection and run vehicle at idle for about 5 minutes. Check belt for proper tension.

11. CAREFULLY check tension of belt. Or disassemble battery connections and re-check belt tension.

12. Reassemble fan fairing (if not already assembled), re-connect battery terminals, and have a nice day. :-)
