Question about 1994 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Engine cuts out fairly regularly when deaccelerating and braking approachung lights and intersections. Resorted to slowing, using the hand brake and maintaining the revs with accelerator. Idles quite nicely when the car is still - problem only seems to occur when slowing 1- 5 kms

What would make my 2014 Dodge Journey stall every time I brake at intersection unless I place it in neutral?

not down shifting as road speed decreases
vacuum leak in the brake booster as you have your foot on the brake while slowing down
run the fault codes to check for sensor problems

2010 subaru forester engine cuts out

consider this
when at the stop lights , you will have your foot on the brake as it will still be in drive or in gear and you don't want the car to move
a simple test is to apply the hand brake to stop the car and don't touch the foot brake
if it idles ok but cuts out when you apply the foot brake , replace the brake booster as it has a vacuum leak that is causing the problem
you can do this test in the garage by starting in neutral and allowing the engine to idle , then apply the foot brake
iof it dies it is the booster

MOTOR CUT OUT , OR WONT IDLE AT STOP STREETS OR ROBOTS oIL LIGHTS START FLICKERING AND ENGINE STALLS

if this is happening when the foot is on the brake, then it is possible that the brake booster is leaking air and running the engine too lean.
check by idling without the foot on the brake

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and it recently started shutting off SPECIFICALLY when I'm braking or slowing down. The idling drops really low like 200-300 rpm then cuts off or sometimes it boosts...

simple test if you have a vacuum brake booster
put the hand brake on and start the engine
if it idles bad --possible vacuum leak from gaskets , vent controls sensor problems
if it idles fine , put the foot on the brake
if it idles bad now -- replace the brake booster

try disconnecting the hose to the brake booster and plugging it, the take it for a drive, ( you won't have power brakes so do this in a empty area)

Brake light comes on

ABS lite or regular brake lite?
If regular brake light you could have an internal leak in the master cylinder. The other options is that the brake light switch (on the emergency brake pedal or hand brake which ever is applicable) is grounded.
Either way have a repair shop check out both possibilities. They are a little tricky to diagnosis.

97 Maxima Rear wheel locked, abs light is on

Your rear wheels have a brake combo(Disc & shoe). Disc of course you can see from the outside but you also have a shoe hidden inside the rotor. Most likely the shoe or the hardware inside the disc rotor hung up. As for saving money for towing, it's kinda hard to do work right in the middle of the highway.

As for the engine light coming. The computer for the car has put itself in a "LIMP" mode which basically puts your engine at its basic function untill you reach the garage. That explains why your Maxima is eating up more gas than usual and extra fumes. Most of the time it is your Oxygen sensor gone bad but have a technician hook up their computer onto your OBD II.

1999 Dodge Intrepid engine jerks, cuts off when slows down/stops

Amattison:

Make sure you are using an original key. I made a copy of my key, and the copy will not work. It will start, but then shut off. Appearantly there is a chip or something in the original.
