My 1996 golf vr6 starts and then goes to 1000rpm and dies

The water is not Circulation not working , its boiling up in the water holder ... took out the thermostat ...what could be the problem :(

This is just a guess. Our vehicles are equipped with an Immobilizer theft deterrent system. It could be that it's malfunctioning thinking it is armed even though the ignition switch is engaged for operation.
To support this, you need to scan for DTC codes stored in the ECU. A scan tool whether a VAG 1552 or equivalent is hooked up to the DLC port and information is downloaded for further interpretation. It would be a good idea to bring it to a VW specialist although a dealer isn't a bad idea that come with a price tag. Hope this will help. Good luck.
