Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Working on 2.2L dohc L61 4CY and have it torn down (in car) the timing chain and it's parts. I have A sheared off upper bolt to the fixed guide and the fixed guide is split along the edge of the hole that the sheared off bolt fits into. Two problems; how to remove end of bolt remaining in aluminum head and I can't find the oil nozzle after I removed the drive sprocket. Please help.

You can drill the remainder of the bolt, tap it with a left hand thread, then insert a left thread bolt (smaller) and as you tighten the left hand thread counter clockwise it will loosen the right hand thread.

I see a visit to a muffler shop in your future. Find an independent privately owned shop, not a chain operated place. They'll be better and cheaper than a chain shop

Jeep patriot timing chain slipped is this a big job for mechanic to fix

no symptoms posted, no events stated.
no mention of chain noise before or now , at failure....
2.4L
here is the interference page on 2.4
  • 2.4L DOHC Non-Interference (Valves may hit if camshafts turn out of time)
  • 2.4L SOHC Interference
  • seems yours is listed as 2.4L DOHC,
this means that the engine is free wheeling on the DOHC
so long as one cam dont spin and the other is stopped.
or one cam slips time and out of time with the other cam.
    and the valves crash..........

on all DOHC engines, i respect them. i do a cylinder leak down
test by hand, no craning the engine with the starter inviting said CRASH.
so if the cylinder leaks near TDC on the compression stroke
or if by hand turned over gently by hand spark plugs out I feel hitting
I STOP. and THINK then take action

what is action, i pull it down and look to see if the marks are OFF.
if off , i fix that then repeat the leak down test.
if that fails, the head must come off

its easy to make it worse, the key is dont/

Does nissan maxima 2001 has a timing belt or chain .and after how many miles does that need to be changed.?

For the 2001 Nissan Maxima 3.0L SFI DOHC V6:
    It has a Timing Chain.
Unlike Timing Belts, Timing Chains will normally last the lifetime of the car. However, when it is time to change the Water Pump: it is a really great idea to change the Timing Chain and Camshaft and Crankshaft Sprockets, as you are in the vicinity and have already torn down everything already.
Professionally, but not officially, I like the 100,000 miles rule with Timing Chains.

Not good. The only way to get that bolt out is to buy a bolt extractor kit. You will need to drill a hole in the bolt first i had that problem and it is a tough go.

How much of a problem is it to change the timing belt on a '94 Cutlass Supreme 3.4L? I know the alternator is a pain.

this unit is not equipped with a timing belt. it has a timing chain. to replace the timing chain is a major undertaking. if you do not have mechanical experience do not attempt . take to a highly reccomended shop.

1997 saturn sl2 dohc is there a timing belt or chain on it

These engines have a timing chain, not a belt. They also have nylon coated guides under the cover that wear. If you change the chain yourself, or have it done, check the guides as well.
