Did this problem happen out of the blue? Did you perform any repairs at all prior to this problem? Were there any symptoms leading up to this? Was the engine light coming on at all? Are there any other lights on, maybe to do with the "VTD" (Vehicle Theft Deterrent)? Have you tried to jump the starter circuit or bench-test the starter?

The battery was dead, we thought. So it was recharged. Then nothing happens when I try to start.
The window washer fluid is out, could that be a problem? In addition, the key was left in when the battery was recharging.

The empty washer fluid res. has nothing to do with the problem. Was the ignition key in the run position while you were charging the battery? If not don't worry about it. So do you know that the battery is at 100%? Do all the lights work or is everything dead? If the battery is good but nothing works, then you will need the dealers help.

I have a 1996 Geo Metro LSI car won't start, no clicking noise but lights come on

  • sure it won't crank the engine , starter motor just clicks !
  • try using jumper cables, and crank, off a running car.?
  • Fuses all good.? test them?
  • battery terminals clean, never green?
  • A/T transmission? did you wiggle shifter, as you crank it.?
  • a/T trans, did you try starting in neutral?
  • M/T trans did you press clutch pedal harder as you cranked it over? (repeat say 3 times, see if this makes it crank)
  • try a good battery from a good car? in your car.
  • charge your battery. using a battery charger..
  • Does hot wiring the starter solenoid , make it crank over?

94 ranger battery new alternator charging but wont crank

10 volts isn't good and if you have a weak connection, it won't turn it over. You should have 12+ from a good battery. Try cleaning the battery connections with a battery brush.

Starter relay fuse is huming

my guess is this is a NO CRANK post. correct me if wrong......?????

did you mean (
THE stater relay buzzes, while cranking.? in the fuse box.
ahhhh, it seems so, no?
The first test for all cranking failures (tech) is battery volts.
(or battery is dead, weaK, BAD orR ONLY discharged)
so i check battery voltage cranking, is it above 10v good, no bad.
10v Alaska ,11v not.

is car a A/T oR M/T car? my guess, automatic tranny.
did you wiggle the shifter cranking?? cranks now?
did you try to start (crank) in NEUTRAL, !!!!
I use and ammeter to measure current on the key line, if battery is good. to see if there is an overload, or no load.
0amps open line, 8amps normal , much more is shorted starter Solenoid. (electrics can fail many ways, not just good and bad)

barstool answer:
did you try a jumper cable start? yet?
and it did what? crank ok, or not, just buzz.

2001 honda civic wont turn over, battery-starter-good, timing belt good, engine will turn by hand but when attempting to start it just clicks. Im leaning towards the ckp sensor

The crank sensor only comes into play while the engine is cranking or running to tell the computer where TDC is.
A no crank issue would be only the starting or security system.
Do you have battery power at the starter when the key is in the start position ? Are the battery cables clean and tight on both ends ?

Won't start. won't even crank when key turned.

no cranks, (A/T or M/T?)(
battery lugs cleaned?
Key turned on , CEL glows in dash, Check engine light>? yes, good.
does car crank jumper cable started.??????
if yes, your battery is bad or discharged, (good batteries can just be discharged, discharged dont make them bad, only dead or weak)
if ,jumper fails, to crank it fast.
then hot wire the solenoid (on side of starter caseing)
key in pocket, '
jump the big lug to the very tiny lug on the solenoid
cranks , not? bad starter
yes cranks but dont run, good, key is in pocket for safety, this is normal
but the KEY line is dead.
bad PRNDL switch
see the tricks section here

Location relay

no model Honda stated, nor year, 1973?
my guess is
car fails to crank, am i right,?
ask how to trouble shoot NO CRANK (easy)
if engine CRANKS, ask who to trouble shoot that (longest book on earth)
ever clean the battery lugs this decade?
no crank, does car have A/T o r M/T tranny, not stated.
did jumper starts or known good battery (fully charged) crank motor fast (y/n)
yes, bad battery
no, bad cranking system. (its a system not 1 part)

cranking dead.
i hot wire the starter, soleniod.
motor cranks but dont start (cuz keys are in my pocket for safety)
no crank is bad starter or bad battery cables
cranks fast. starter and crank shaft on engine spins normal
cause,bad key line.

post results. we can work a bad key line, after post tranny type.
the above cuts the problem in1/2.
1: bad cranking system.
2: bad key line.

if battery is just discharged, its a bad battery or bad charging system.
owning a charger solve this as is using a voltmeter on battery after a good start.

Car cranked for about 5 seconds then everything went dead. Battery is good, fuses on left side of the steering collum good. 1997 buick lesabre 3.8 L engine. Is there a fusable link somewhere? Could not...

I would check the connections at the battery for the pos. and neg. posts or side posts. If it cranked, then it should keep on cranking for more than 5 sec if the connections are good and the battery is fully charged.

There are fusible links, but they generally won't blow because of cranking.

Good luck on this repair.

2006 Saab Aero 93 won't start, battery is good, starter, alternator all good. will start if jumped

Get the battery and charging system tested. Sounds like the battery does not have any cranking amps. If you have a digital meter check cranking voltage. If it drops below 11 volts when you crank the battery is toast..
