Question about 1997 Mercury Mountaineer
That is the way mine works. It is either an "active" or "passive" system (don't know which term goes with which system) meaning that you have to lock the vehicle manually in order for the anti-theft system to work.
I don't know what you mean by "transmission will not take drive"..
