You have a loose crank-shaft. There may be a notice on that model, you can check with the service dept at your local dealer. It could be that your answer lies in shimming the CKP sensor.

No. I don't mean loose being up and down loose. If that was the case you would have a lower engine knock. I mean that there is play in the crank from front to rear. Some play is normal. The thing is that the dealer may tell you that a shim is needed to correct this problem.
You will not have enough room underneath to pull the pan out but even if you did you are not going to correct the problem this way. Please, look into the shim, good-luck.

I know, but if you call or go to the dealership and talk to the service rep.. When you tell them what has happened and ask if there is a repair notice. They will look it up and let you know. If there is a notice on that car there will be a shim kit available through them to correct this problem. I guess I would ask, how much of the sensor was chipped off? If it was more then 1/16 of an inch then you probably won't be able to repair this with a shim. Good-luck.

Its on the bottem of the engine in the front between the oil pan and the harminoc balance witch is the lower pulley on the engine . You may have to remove some plastic splash guards to get at it but its simple to replace once your there

Difficulty in changing the oil pan gasket I dont have the car here to look at do I have to remove any type of crossmember bracing or is it a direct shot to remove it

It's a direct shot....

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
    1. Remove the transaxle converter cover.
  3. For 1986-90 vehicles, remove the starter motor from the vehicle, as outlined in Section 2.
  4. Remove the oil filter.
  5. If equipped, disconnect the oil level sensor.
  6. For 1996-99 vehicles, remove the oil level sensor. On these vehicles, the oil level sensor must be removed prior to removing the pan. If the pan is removed first, damage to the sensor may occur.
  7. Remove the oil pan-to-engine bolts and the oil pan. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket. The formed rubber oil pan gasket cannot be reused.
  8. If necessary, remove the oil pump pipe and screen.
  9. Thoroughly clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
To install:
  1. If removed, install the oil pump pipe and screen. Secure with the retaining bolt(s) and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  2. Place a new formed rubber gasket in the oil pan flange.
  3. Position the oil pan and secure with the oil pan-to-engine bolts. Tighten the bolts to 124 inch lbs. (14 Nm). Do NOT overtighten the bolts, as this will damage the oil pan, causing a leak.
  4. For 1986-90 vehicles, install the starter motor and transaxle converter cover.
  5. Install a new oil filter.
  6. For 1996-99 vehicles, install the oil level sensor.
  7. If equipped, connect the low oil level sensor wire.
  8. Carefully lower the vehicle.

WARNING Operating the engine without the proper amount and type of engine oil will result in severe engine damage.

  1. Fill the crankcase with the proper type and amount of engine oil.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable, then start the engine and check for leaks. Check the oil level and add if necessary.

2001 oil pan removal

You need to drop the exhaust then the pan comes down. BUT if you are doing this because the exhaust shield has rubed through the paint making the pan rot out in that one spot. then once you remove the exhaust grind the pan where the hole is and wire brush an old copper penny and use ( J B weld ) epoxy http://www.jbweld.net/index.php
to stick the penny over the hole, then with a hammer tap the exhaust shield back so it doesnt touch the pan and bolt it back up.

dropping the exhaust is tricky, once you have the 4 oxyigen sensors unpluged remove the 4 exhaust manifold nuts off the studs (you might need to use a torch to heat them up) then unbolt the flex pipe and you will have 1 more bolt in the middle of the system that as you crank it out the exhaust will come down

Crank sensor broke

no you can not just push it through!!!

it will not just fall into the oil. it will hit against the crankshaft and stop. you must remove the oil pan and pry between to crank and the engine block and force it out of he block.

they usually get baked in by the oil on the o-ring seal
