You have to use the "Quick Disconnect Tool" to disconnect the fuel line/s from the fuel filter. If you choose not to and think you may want to try using a pick or something !!!DON'T!!! The cost for a new fuel-line out ways the cost of the tool.

Break them. Really, go get a tool. You can use two screwdrivers, but it'll take a while.

On a 1995 kia sportage fuel filter, what kind of fastner is on the lines (do you need to have a special tool---quick disconnect plastic???

Most newer cars use a quick disconnect fitting which does require a special tool. The good news is most parts store sell a cheap set of these and can explain how to use them.

Change fuel filter

Remove the screw from the metal bracket that is holding the fuel filter. It is located right below the battery to the right. To get the quick connect fuel line fittings off. YOU WILL NEED A DISCONNECT TOOL. O'Reillys or Auto Zone should have the tool pack of (6) The small gray one fits the 2001 Sportage. Put the plastic tool under the fuel line fitting and squeeze together. The fuel line will pop off the old filter. To remove the rear fuel line, go under the vehicle and use the tool on the fuel line. There is a rubber hose with 2 quick connect fittings. One end attaches to the filter and the other end attaches to a metal fuel line under vehicle. Remove the fitting that attaches to the metal line since there is no room on the back of filter for the tool to fit. Once you get the whole assembly out of the car.... you can work on getting the fitting off the rear of the old filter. Be very careful not to damage the plastic quick connect fittings! KEEP YOUR FACE CLEAR OF THE FILTER A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS WILL COME OUT!!!!!

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2002 Kia Sportage?

Hi there,

The fuel filter is located right below the battery to the right. If you intend changing it, here are a few steps to help. Firstly, remove the screw from the metal bracket that is holding the fuel filter. To get the quick connect fuel line fittings off, you need a disconnect tool. I got a pack of 6 at Advance Auto for $12. The small gray one fits the 2001 Sportage.

Put the plastic tool under the fuel line fitting and squeeze together. The fuel line will pop off the old filter. To remove the rear fuel line, I had to go under the vehicle and use the tool on the fuel line. There is a rubber hose with 2 quick connect fittings. One end attaches to the filter and the other end attaches to a metal fuel line under vehicle. Remove the fitting that attaches to the metal line since there is no room on the back of filter for the tool to fit. Once you get the whole assembly out of the car, you can work on getting the fitting off the rear of the old filter. Be very careful not to damage the plastic quick connect fittings!

Good luck!

Where is the fuel filter on our 2000 Kia Sportage?

The fuel filter is bolted to the frame rail below right of the battery. It is cylinder shaped and has a fuel line at each end.

Procedure for removing it:
Find the fuel tank access plate under the rear seat. With the engine idling disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness and let the engine stall. This relieves the fuel pressure.
The lines on the fuel filter itself are "quick connect" fittings. Depress the tabs on the fuel line and push TOWARDS the filter. The line should pop off. It's difficult to depress the tabs and you CAN use a pair of pliers but be careful or you'll damage the fitting.
Reverse to install new filter. Reconnect fuel pump, start the engine, and check for leaks.

YOU DO NOT NEED ANY TOOLS TO TAKE THE FUEL LINES OFF. the lines are quick connect. THE LINE HAS TWO FLAT SIDES AT THE FILTER. squeeze these with thumb and fore finger. At the same time push the line towards the filter, and then pull it away from the filter, all the while keeping the squeeze on those flat spots. Hope this helps.

How do you get the fuel lines off the fuel filter in a 1999 kia sportage

There is a special tool that pushes up into the filter to remove it. Most auto parts stores will loan you one if you buy the filter from them.

Removing fuel line from fuel filter

Hi, Fuel filters and some other hose connections on vehicles today use a clip mechanism that is easily released with a small plastic tool. These tools are available in most auto parts stores. They come in a set to accommodate different size hoses, and metal barbs. Simply put the longer end of the tool toward the fitting and press to release. Good Luck!
