Question about 2000 Chevrolet Impala

3 Answers

My 2000 chevy impala has been overheating for 2 years now. I have tried everthing. First i had a raditior flush even though there is a sticker saying no maintainece is required for 100,000 miles well it was only 87,000. Then i replaced the thermostat, temp sensor, upper and lower hoses, water pump, radiatior x2, radiaitior cap, also had the system flushed again only to have it overheat STILL!

Just for the heck of it, check and see if the electric cooling fan/fans are working/ coming on when it should, if not, the radiator isn't getting cooled down like it should.
You stated you replaced the temp sensor, try replacing the temp sending unit, if that's bad, it will send a false reading to the gauge, showing over heating, when it actually isn't. Good luck.

Is your electric fan working? Is it turning on when you turn the air on? If you have 2 fans on the radiator, is the other one turning on when engine starts to get hot? You seemed to have replaced everything else outside of a new engine block. Just make sure your fans are working properly.

I have a 2000 chevy impala my heat doesn't work,

first it to verify the coolant flow. I suspect the heater core isn't flowing, you may need to take a garden hose and take both heater hoses off, and flush in both directions to clean the heater core. flush in both directions until you get clean water flow. I am assuming the coolant level is OK, and the water pump is pumping and the engine is getting warm enough.

My 2000 chevy impala heater fan control doesen't work at all. everthing works, except when you turn the control on any setting the blower motor won't come on/? no blowen fuse.

the resistor to the blower motor is bad or the motor itself, the resistor should be right next to the blower fan a heavy gauge wire plugs into it, or it might even just be the wire, it is common for them to melt

Engine light comes on and says engine overheating

Could be three things: Hopefully the first...
1. radiator fan not blowing. (most likely)
2. Radiator clogged (not likely)
3. Head gasket blown... (very possible)

If #1, system cannot detect fan not blowing. It may be the fuse or the relay switch, disconnecetd wire at fan, or burned-out fan motor.
If #2, Flush radiator
If #3, you will see WHITE smoke out the tailpipe and excessive water drops.
Your new oil will have a "milky" look (check the oil dipstick). That is water.
When engine is COLD, remove radiator cap and start car. You will notice high-pressure "bubbles" squirt out of the radiator, even before the engine warms up.

I hope it is #1. and that this is helpful.

1993 chevy camero- thick, rusty colored residue in radiator

The rust is probably in the engine. There are many little pockets, water ways, water jackets (around the cylinders), etc, so getting all the rust out without dunking the block and heads in a cleaning tank is about imposible. I would recommend giving it really good flush every 4 to 6 months. I would try flushing the radiator before replacing it because it is probably not rusted, even though it is full of gunk.
