Question about 1999 Jaguar XK8

1 Answer

My xk8 1999 convertible seems to lose memory about one or two times aweek for the auto drop on the drivers side. I know how to correct it but sometimes it seems to be frozen so that the window switches do not work at all for either side on the drivers door and the open drivers side door comes on the message center. After driving it a short distance I'll hear a click and everything seems to work again but when I exit the car both my gas cap lid and trunk lid are open. Oh yes when it happens even the mirror control will not work until I hear a click

The control module is losing it's keep alive memory power, this is either due to a fualty control module or a loose 12 volt power lead to the module, the dealer needs to check the module which i suspect is the problem.

Thanks for the solution. Where is the control module located? I am over a 100 miles from a Jag dealership but have a local guy who was a former Jag mechanic or could even the body shop they have replace it. It happened again this morning. Windows will not work from the driver side and even the remote will not work as well as can't even lock the driver side door manually. Thanks. john M.

Now I can't even lock the drivers side door manually. Normally all I have to do is wait a little while for it to correct itself but its been over 12 hours now. I had to replace the abs module a month ago and that took care of all the abs, stabilty etc. problems. thanks to mastermodule co. Although car is over 11 years old only have 40,000 miles on it. frustrating. Where is window module control located or are you refering to the door switch since the

THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE IS ALMOST CERTAINLY WITH THE BODY CONTROL MODULE, U CAN'T JUST REPLACE IT, THE DEALER MUST PROGRAM THE NEW ONE FOR YOUR PARTICULAR CAR, IT SHOULD ALSO BE QUICK TESTED BEFORE IT IS REPLACED TO SEE IF ANY FAULTS ARE PRESENT IN THE SYSTEM, THIS IS A DEALER LEVEL REPAIR, THERE IS NO OTHER WAY SHORT OF BUYING A $2000.00 SCAN TOOL

I need to replace my mazda mpv catalytic

Ok the fastest way to solve weather it is the cats in the exhaust system is to take it too a exhaust specialist and ask them to do a exhaust pressure test. They should have all the pressure drop data there and can tell you if there is to much restriction in the exhaust, if there is to much chances are they will be the cats, usually the front one. Yep your dad is correct with his theory, but excessive overfuelling will also cause the cats to build up excess heat and start to melt, or fall apart. So get a good service when your able too, plugs/filters and oils. Yep your firing order is correct.

Location of oxygen sensor

Under the truck, driver side exhaust pipe, there are 2, 1 is before the catalytic converter, the other is after. They screw into the side of the exhaust pipe.

Replacing 02 sensors

iowa500 is correct.  They are really easy to change.  All your major auto parts stores carry oxygen sensor sockets that will attach to the end of a 3/8" drive ratchet.  Some auto parts stores will rent these for free (you only pay a deposit, no rental fee). This makes the job SSSOOOOOO much easier.  You may have to use an extension to get to them, however they are really easy.
Just incase you don't know, they are mounted in the exhaust pipes.  You will have one on the passenger's side and driver's side.  Basically its like changing spark plugs.  They screw in about the same.
Any further questions, just ask.

Seems like a huge coincidence it stopped working at the same time it was visiting the dealership. I suggest you take it back and complain that they broke your seat.

You have nothing to lose and will probably get the fault diagnosed free and maybe more...
