Best is to bring it up to temperature, turn it off before it overheats, wait about five minutes and re-start and begin filling again (with heater on full heat) I prefer doing this with the front of the vehicle slightly raised so air travels to the radiator. Also check to see if there are any bleed valves on the engine (should be listed in manual). If you still have a problem, remove the thermostat and see if it still overheats...If so, you may have a new engine with a blown head gasket (if it's a used one) One other item to look at is to make sure that if you have an electric fan, make sure it's working.
I know you just did a lot of work...hope it's something simple!!

Cooling fans not kicking on until its too late and sometimes not at all and it is the 3800 SC motor . i dont realy want to hard wire them with my stereo and soon to be replacement rear air system it dont...

I presume the problem is overheating? Be sure you are using a new 195% degree thermostat...these motors are usually not a problem of running hot...the best thermostat is the new "fail safe" design. This thermostat is designed to freeze open if fails...never closed to cause overheating...a few more bucks but worth it. This is a huge cooling system on your Buick...could be early signs of failing water pump, or restricted radiator flow...sometimes just needs a new radiator cap. Hope this helps.

2006 CHEVY COBALT OVERHEATING HAS NEW RADIATOR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT

That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

My 1996 chevy suburban wont start

If you plugged the original leak (which sounds like the head gasket) and then the radiator was leaking, and you are having water coming out of the exhaust, then you need to replace the head gaskets. It sounds like you had a blown head gasket from the start. Here's what to do.

1. Replace the head gaskets (will need intake manifold gasket as it need to come off for this procedure).

2. Replace thermostat, radiator cap (if radiator is still good)

3. Replace water pump; the water pump may have stopped working (mechanical), which in turn caused the pressure to build an blow the head gasket (the cause of the pump would be a bad thermostat. If the truck was overheating, then the thermostat was bad to begin with, then the pump, then the head gasket, so then the only place left for the water to go is out the exhaust.

Here is a list of replacements:

^ water pump
^ thermostat
^ head gaskets
^ valve cover gaskets
^ radiator cap (if radiator is good)
^ radiator : if leak from cap caused any damage to radiator (should still be good)

**Also check the radiator hoses to ensure they do not have any "bubbles". Hot water over time (with anti-freeze) erodes the inside of the hoses, and begins to "dig" holes and grooves in the hose, which evetually cause leaks. Consider replacing these as well for safe measure.

Please, let me know if you need further assistance.

1991 bmw 318is 4 door 16 valve motor, runs hot and radiator cold

you may have bad waterpump, the impeller on pump may be borken, just because it doesnt leak doesnt mean its good.also could have exhaust entering cooling system (bad headgasket) if pump is good have a block test done.

1993 chevy camero- thick, rusty colored residue in radiator

The rust is probably in the engine. There are many little pockets, water ways, water jackets (around the cylinders), etc, so getting all the rust out without dunking the block and heads in a cleaning tank is about imposible. I would recommend giving it really good flush every 4 to 6 months. I would try flushing the radiator before replacing it because it is probably not rusted, even though it is full of gunk.
