This is almsot certainly caused by a leaking engine cylinder head gasket, have a shop do test for the presence of combustion gases in the cooling system. U can also buy a test kit from Napa, I hear that they work fairly well, but i still prefer using a gas analyzer to be sure.

The easyest way to do it is to find your top hose that come out of ya radiator and follow it back to the engine. The termo, will be behind the part that bolts to the engine. It should have two bolts holding it on.

Overheating engine: termo guage at the middle during idle

The Temp gauge should read in the middle of the gauge at operating temperature. This is normal. The radiator fan should come on after idling (not driving) for 20 minutes. The fan should also come on when you turn on the AC. Are you experiencing overheat problems?
Please reply if you have overheating issues.
