Question about 1997 Chevrolet K1500
That is strange. how is the battery? one way this could occur is if the battery is too weak during startup to get the computer the right info to fire the injectors so the starting fluid gets it going and then the alternator kicks in and the voltage is present to maintain operation. just one of many possibilities. check this with a volt meter. battery should be 12.5 or better. if you can check while cranking motor without starter fluid and see where voltage drops to.
if it is below 12 volts this could happen. let me know please and thanks for using fixya
