Removal & Installation WARNING Extreme caution should be taken when removing the fuel tank from the vehicle! Ensure that all removal procedures are conducted in a well ventilated area! Have a sufficient amount of absorbent material in the vicinity of the work area to quickly contain any fuel spillage. NEVER store waste fuel in an open container, as it presents a serious fire hazard!

This procedure will require a new fuel pump gasket for pump installation, so be sure to have one before starting.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the rear seat cushion and unplug the electrical connectors from the fuel pump.
  4. Unfasten the four pump access cover screws and remove the cover.
  5. If equipped, unplug the pump electrical connector located under the cover.
  6. Unfasten the fuel line clip(s) and disconnect the line(s) from the pump.
  7. Use a fuel pump locking ring removal tool or a brass drift and a hammer to unfasten the pump locking retaining ring.
  8. Remove the fuel pump and the gasket from the tank.

The fuel pump is accessable by removing the rear seat (it pulls out easily) and the fuel pump is pretty easy to get at from there. I would make sure its the fuel pump though (check your fuel filter and fuel cutoff switch first). Your fuel pump also has a seperate 20A fuse in the power box under the hood.

SOURCE: I want to find the

The fuel pump relay is in a unit (along with the PCM power relay) called the constant control relay module. This unit is located in the left front of the engine compartment about midway between the headlight and the fusebox (closer to the fusebox). Hope this helps.

I own a 1998 Ford Escort S.E 4 Cyl. I have to flick the ignition switch to start the car. I assume the check valve is bad. Does that come with a nerw fuel pump?

If you are saying you think the fuel pump is loosing pressure when the engine is off, then yes the check valve is in the pump. But it could also be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator.
A mechanic would check the fuel pressure at the engine and find out if it is dropping off.

WHER IS THE SECRET KEY OF GAS PUMP?

If you mean the fuel pump re-set button, Fords used to put them in the trunk area, maybe behind a trim or moulding piece. If it's not there, you may have to check with the dealer, or someone familiar with later Escorts. Good luck.

I want to find the location of the fuel pump relay on a se ford escort 1998 wagon.

Fuel pump relays are typically located in the power distribution box under the hood or mounted on the Drivers side fender wall. The Fuel pump relay, AC relay and Starter Relay are all the same type and interchangeable so you can change them out between each other, like move the AC relay to the Fuel pump relay position and see if that resolves the problem.

Car will run fine for days then will start to act like its losing pressure was told fuel pump was going bad its a 1998 ford escort se

when they get hot (fuel pump) they lose pressure as they get older-fuel keeps the pump cool, so within reason, having a 1/2 tank or better should help unless it is past the point of usefullness-you are going to have to replace the pump, sooner better an later or it will leave you stranded.

Blown Fuses - Dead 1998 Ford Escort

Try changing the fuel filter first we always change them when servicing the fuel pump anyway, its easy and cheap,if that doesnt solve the problem you will have to perform an amperage draw test on the fuel pump to insure your not replacing a good pump. Check the fuel pump relay and inertia switch and wiring also.Although possible its unlikley the fuel pump would blow a fuse consistantly without displaying any driveability problems. There may also be another component running off the fuel pump fuse have your mechanic pull a wiring diagram to find out. Good hunting keep me informed

1999 ford escort i have a fuel pressure problem no pressure car off at fuel rail low pressure ignition on car misses when excelerating

your fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds with the key on, unless it is running. Safety reasons. It runs during starting all the time, and all the time if engine is running.
check fuel pump relay in driver kick panel and inertia switch reset in trunk. Se owner manual for info.
