Does it start right back up?if it does does it run another five miles. Does the car seem to be too hot? Is the check engine light on with the engine running? If the lights on get the codes read and follow their lead. over heating is in the five mile range as is the fuel tank not getting air in to let the fuel flow out. The exhaust can be stopped up but if it does restart after quitting it'll runn only a short time before it quits again. Driving the car harder will make it quit sooner as will warmer weather.

1998 Dodge Dakota 5.2. It starts and runs great for about 5 miles then stalls.

For 5 miles it is running on choke. Try cleaning the Throttle Body and MAF.

If that doesn't work, you need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer. It can record exactly what goes wrong at 5 miles and diagnose the fault.

It appears to be a known fault

My 1989 560 SEC is stalling out I've replaced battery and fuel filter. Although I found out one fuel pump was disconnected. I fixed the fuse to my knowledge. Now it starts up in the morning while it's cold...

When it dies you need to check the fuel pressure and see if the engine has spark. Also the engine can be scanned for codes, in this case it should have a fault code of some kind.

Car is idleling high and low and turns off

Mundy, I would say it is either the idle control sensor or a map sensor. If it goes 5 miles and dies, sometimes 30 miles, then dies, it is probably the map sensor. If it don't, I would say it is the idle control sensor. Don't hesitate to ask me a question if you need to Mundy. 4 thumbs up very much appreciated if you appreciate the reply. Thank you.

Erratic RPM-Moves BUT slow-Wants to die

Sounds like fuel dilivery problem, try a new fuel filter, if that don't help, or it is not an issue, do a fuel pressure test to see if you got the right p.s.i. from pump.
