A six cylinder in-line engine has a power impulse every 720 degrees/6 i.e. 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation. The crankshaft has six crank-throws placed at 120 degrees out of phase with one another, which can be arranged only in three planes. Therefore, the crankpin phasing is arranged in pairs. For heavy-duty diesel engines, seven journals and bearings are provided, at each end and between adjacent crankpins. For petrol engines only 4 or 5 main journals are provided. The firing order with the crankshaft arrangement shown in the attached figure is considered. With piston 1 at the top of the compression stroke, its opposite piston 6 is at the top of its exhaust stroke. Rotation of crankshaft through 120 degrees brings pistons 2 and 5 to their TDC and either one of these can be arrangement to complete a compression stroke. If piston 5 is arranged to be at the end of compression and at the start of its power stroke, then piston 2 must be on its exhaust stroke. Rotation of crankshaft through second 120 degrees positions pistons 3 and 4 at the TDC, so either one of these can be on the compression stroke. If piston 3 is made to be on compression, piston 4 must be on its exhaust stroke. A third rotation of 120 degrees brings pistons 1 and 6 back again to TDC, where piston 6 is arranged to be on the compression and piston 1, therefore, be on its exhaust stroke. A fourth 120 degrees rotation brings pistons 2 and 5 to their TDC. Piston 2 is now on its compression and piston 5 on its exhaust stroke. Rotation of crankshaft through fifth 120 degrees brings piston 3 and 4 to TDC. Piston 4 is on compression and piston 3 on its exhaust stroke. Final rotation of 120 degrees completes the 720 degrees displacement of crankshaft and brings the pistons into positions for the next cycle. This cycle provides a firing order of 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4. If the phasing of paired crank-throws 3 and 4 and 2 and 5 are interchanged, then a second equally suitable firing-order of 1, 4, 2, 6, 3, 5 is achieved. This arrangement provides excellent dynamic balance and evenness of torque, and is preferred for engines larger than 2.5 liters provided length is not a prime consideration.

Location of #1 piston on 2005 ford taurus


There are three variations of the Taurus engine. All are 3.0L in size. Leave it to Ford to make things confusing. All have the same piston location, although one model has coil packs and the other has coil-on-plug. Here is a diagram showing the piston position and firing order.

the knock sensor is located on a v 6 engine in the valley at no 5 piston position
there is another sensor directly opposite on bank 1 at no 2 piston position
for general information if your engine is not v 6 on a 4 cyl they are at no 1 and between 3 and 4 cylinders on the inlet manifold side and on a v 8 engine they are between 2-4 and 6-8 exhaust side and between 1-3 and 5-7 on the exhaust side

Distributor rotation: counterclockwise ,start by finding timing mark on crank shaft and rotate motor to timing indecater on motor ( to check if that is #1 at top dead center remove spark plug, piston should be at top of cylinder, use a soft object to feel piston come up you need 2 people to do this ,1 to turn motor over by hand and 1 to feel for piston rising now open dist. cap and note location of rotor pointing to #1 ignition wire or that will be now #1 and follow firing order ,if you go to auto zone and create an account (its free) you can get info on timing a motor and cylinder position .I REALLY hope this helped you .if it did let me know.thanks .

firing order for 6 cylinder engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4. In line 6 . piston no 1 is the front piston. pull the distributor cap and check rotor direction on cranking.

How do I replace brake pads on 2007 tucson. I


use a 14mm wrench or socket to remove the caliper bolts/slides. remove caliper. note how old pads came off, match the new pads with same location of old pads ( check for hardware or indicator location). press the caliper piston in . the correct way is to use a caliper press, apply a little pressure to piston, open bleeder screw, press piston all the way in, tighten bleeder. (or grab a 'c' clamp and slowly push the piston in. i would recommend having the rotors machined to for proper wear and to eliminate vibration. for this remove 2 17mm bolts holding caliper bracket on and rotor will slide off.

Mazda 6 2006, rear disc brakes. In trying to replace the pads I could not retract the piston w/ either channel locks or c-clamp. Is there some trick to this? Piston does not seem to be bound as it actuates...


You need to twist the piston as you retract it. I use channel locks to twist and a c-clamp. be careful not to grab nor tear the piston boot.

1993 Jeep Cherokee Front Rotor & Pad Replacement


This is a walk through for a 1993 2wd.

1. Jack up and remove tire
2. Remove 2 brake caliper mounting bolts
3. Remove caliper and hang out of way with wire
4. Remove rotor, if stuck hit on all sides with a rubber mallet until it breaks loose.
5. Install new rotor
6. Remove old pads from caliper
7. Using a c-clamp and a block of wood against caliper piston, compress piston until it is flush w/caliper
8. Install new pads in same location as old pads
9. Reinstall caliper, may have to nudge it into place with rubber mallet
10. Reinstall tire.

note: There are no bearings to grease. You must replace the entire hub assembly if yours are worn.
